REFRESHER COURSE REPORT
Refresher Course: ICT Applications and Soft Skill (MD) held at Academic Staff College, V.
V. Nagar during 01st to 21st December’ 2014. There was total 72 session conducted during this
period and 35 resource persons are invited by organizer. In our inaugural session, Dr. Vipul
Desai as chief guest, Member of Board of various University and Ex. Professor & Head and
Dr. P. V. Virparia, Course Director and Faculty of ASC were present and aware about ICT
applications and future of ICT impact on human being and living creatures as well as free
software movement in world.
In this course, Information and communications technology (I.C.T.) is often used as an
extended synonym for information technology (IT), but is a more specific term that stresses the
role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and
wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and
audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.
The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone
networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large
economic incentives (huge cost savings due to elimination of the telephone network) to merge
the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of
cabling, signal distribution and management.
Also, we feel that ICT in real-sense reform the world in near future by looking speed of
development in this field. As a person of non computer background and working in college of A.
I. T., this course are really worthful to me by understanding basic as well as few applications like
Artificial Intelligence use in the field of Medical, Petroleum, Engineering, Agriculture, Analysis
as well as in communication sector. There are almost 70 to 80% sessions for computer basic
and its application related whereas 20% for soft skill for improving our teaching and
communication skills. Initially, we think that why should we learn basic module of computer like
word processing, Excel and Power point as well as Internet (search engine) where we have only
30-40% knowledge about it as well as it is really needful for understand higher level ICT
application like C programming, computer network, Data mining, ICT application in Education,
e-commerce, Internet technology, Video conferencing, Flesh, MATLAB, On-line education,
OCR, Simulation and modeling, Android application, Artificial Intelligence, Google Apps,
Cloud computing, Cyber security and ICT trends, Computer literacy, Web Designing, 3-D
technology, operating system, Image processing and SPSS etc. Among above all, I get basic idea
about what is cloud computing, computer network, Data mining software like WEKA,
MATLAB and SPSS are software packages, Operating system and Use of Artificial Intelligence.
By looking trend and rising population in world future are totally depend on computer
technology despite the fact that it is develop by human being. In education sector, more and more
people like to join distance education as well as transform “Brick to Click” education system.
For financial management as well as e-governances, we put one steps toward the green office
where concept to save paper/paperless office by e-transaction, e letter, e report, phone banking
and internet banking etc. In Google so many facilities provide through which we get easy
information and world make smaller by electronic media and communication, Web designing is
another concept where daily more than 800 sites upload in Google. In this situation, enormous
data created so data mining is also important tools for accurate and precise result based on
collected data. About literacy, people those can’t attain school also have ability to operate
computer and smart phone which indicate development and craze in ICT. In education, 3-D
technology, Flesh (animation) as well as e-education are powerful tools in understanding subject
properly by student whereas Video conferencing, Simulation modeling and image processing are
applied in agriculture field for information dissemination and generate precise information under
variable situation. Now trend towards mobile application instead of computer application i.e.
android base information generation is required.
Soft skill means commutation technology which is powerful tools for presenting your
thoughts and idea. Communication is a process which includes Development of idea, Encoding,
Transmit, Receive, Decode and Use information. In classroom teaching, sender/teacher is more
important than receiver/ student. In this process, stabilize environment and keep alive audience
by giving examples because personality and perception are differ from person to person. 5 V’s
are important in communication i.e. Vidya, Vapucha, Vastra, Voice and Vinay. Feedback and
Self disclosure are two major concepts in self improvement. Life skill is required to living
successful life not only for carrier and business purpose but for overall. WHO has shortlisted ten
fundamental life skill like Self awareness, Empathy, Decision making, Problem solving,
effective communication, Interpersonal relation, critical thinking, coping with emotion, and
coping with stress
In general lecture series viz., Video conferencing, Simulation modeling and image processing,
Search engine, Web designing, MS office and Communication (student and teacher behavior),
are worth full lectures for me, which is imparting knowledge and skill in classroom teaching and
future research programme.
Overall, this course is helpful for me and thanks to our Hona’ble Vice- chancellor, Director of
Research and Dean P.G. Studies and Principal, College of A. I. T., AAU, Anand for permitting
me to attain this refresher course. Finally, Academic Staff College, SP University, V. V. Nagar
conveys his thanks to permit us to attain this course.
