Intentional Extreme Pseudophakic Monovision to Treat Diplopia
Robert H. Osher, MD is Professor of Ophthalmology at the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and
Medical Director Emeritus of the Cincinnati Eye Institute. Dr. Osher served his residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye
Institute and completed three fellowships in Miami and at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He has received
countless awards internationally, and has designed many of the contemporary intraocular lenses and instruments
used in cataract surgery, in addition to developing new techniques in this subspecialty. He is the Founder and Editor
of the Video Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and has published more than 250 videos and peer-reviewed
articles. He is the principle organizer for the renowned Cataract Surgery: Telling It Like It Is meeting that is now in its
6th year.

William B. Trattler, MD
Cross-linking is Finally Approved in the US: Now What?
William B. Trattler, MD received his Doctorate of Medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is an expert in the treatment of severe dry eye and performs a wide variety of cataract and refractive
surgeries. Dr. Trattler treats corneal diseases such as keratoconus and post LASIK Ectasia with Corneal Collagen
Crosslinking and other procedures and was involved in the FDA trials to approve Crosslinking in the U.S.
Dr. Trattler has been invited to lecture across the U.S. on various topics such as: Optimizing visual results
with both cataract and laser vision correction, therapeutic options for patients with dry eye and blepharitis,
femtosecond laser cataract surgery, corneal collagen crosslinking for keratoconus and post lasik ectasia, and
the latest treatments in ocular allergy and infections. In addition to his private practice, Dr. Trattler is a
Volunteer Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami’s Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.

Fernando Cesar Abib, MD, PhD is an Ophtalmologist. He is Head of Ophthalmology Service of Erasto Gaertner Hosptial, Brazil,
Professor of Human Anatomy at Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, and Head of Corneal Endothelium and Specular Microscopy Lab.
Noel A. Brennan, MScOptom, PhD, FAAO
The Myopia Story: Facing up to the Challenges
Noel A. Brennan, MScOptom, PhD, FAAO is a scientist, inventor, clinical researcher, author and international educator.
Dr. Brennan is the Global Platform Lead for Myopia Control and a Clinical Research Fellow at Johnson & Johnson Vision Care,
since 2011. Prior to 2011 he co-directed a privately-owned research consulting company and, was an academic faculty
member at the University of Melbourne, reaching the level of Reader. He is a Senior Fulbright Alumnus, a Max Shapero
Memorial Lecture Awardee of the American Academy of Optometry and a councilor of the International Society for Contact
Lens Research. He is known for numerous developments including: the Atago hand held refractometer; his work on ‘blur
adaptation’; driving the celebrated Liou-Brennan model eye; designing the nose-cone optics of the Medmont corneal
topographer; identifying the surprise major contact lens parameter associated with CL discomfort – surface friction; and,
most recently, spearheading development of vanguard optical designs for myopia control, and more.
Jessica Ciralsky, MD
Antibiotic Prophylaxis and Therapeutic Contact Lenses: Controversies and Considerations
Jessica Ciralsky, MD is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Her practice interests include
corneal diseases and corneal surgery, advanced cataract surgery, laser vision correction, and comprehensive ophthalmology. Dr. Ciralsky obtained her M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and she continued her training at the
Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, where she completed her Ophthalmology Residency and
Cornea Fellowship. During her fellowship, Dr. Ciralsky was elected Chief Clinical Fellow of the Cornea Service. She was
also a recipient of the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship. Dr. Ciralsky has been recognized as a gifted
educator. She was awarded Fellow of the Year, an award given by the residents of Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary
for dedication and contribution to resident education. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Contact
Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, (CLAO).
Deepinder K. Dhaliwal, MD, LAC
A Low-Cost, Low Tech Way to Examine a “Dry Eye” Patient and Not Miss a Thing!
Deepinder K. Dhaliwal, MD, LAC is the current President of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO).
She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University in the Honors Program in Medical Education where she
was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, and completed her residency in ophthalmology at
the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She is currently Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh
School of Medicine, Director of Refractive Surgery and the Cornea Service at UPMC Eye Center, and Founder and Director
of the Center for Integrative Eye Care at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a recognized expert in her field and teaches
corneal and refractive surgical techniques to ophthalmologists globally.

Kendall E. Donaldson, MD, MS
Multifocal CL and Multifocal IOLs: Does Success With One Modality Indicate Success With the Other?
Kendall E. Donaldson, MD, MS, is associate professor of ophthalmology and cornea specialist at the Bascom Palmer Eye
Institute. She completed her residency training and cornea/external disease fellowship at Bascom Palmer in 2004. In
addition to caring for her patients, Dr. Donaldson has also enjoyed working with the residents and fellows and became
co-director of the cornea fellowship in 2013. Dr. Donaldson’s primary research interests are in the area of advancements
in cataract surgery, and in particular, laser-assisted cataract surgery, and severe ocular surface disease. She performs
various types of corneal transplantation procedures, laser vision correction procedures, ocular surface reconstruction, and
cataract surgery.
Whitney Hauser, OD
Simple, Step-wise Approach to Treating Dry Eye Disease
Whitney Hauser, OD is an Optometric Physician who sees patients at the TearWell Advanced Dry Eye Treatment Center.
Dr. Hauser graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She obtained
her Doctor of Optometry at the Southern College of Optometry (SCO) with the academic distinction magna cum laude
and completed her residency in Primary Care through SCO and the VA Medical Center in Memphis. Dr. Hauser was in
private practice for 10 years where her concentration was Dry Eye and Ocular Surface Disease management as well as
surgical pre and post-operative care.
Motohiro Itoi, MD
Contact Lens Prescribing in Japan
Motohiro Itoi, MD is Medical staff in the Department of Ophthalmology at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine in
Kyoto, Japan. He completed his medical training and residency at Tokyo Medical University in Tokyo, Japan where he also
completed his residency. He received the 2016 Young Researcher’s Award from the Japan Contact Lens Society, and the
2015-2016 Hot Topics Award at the 58th & 59th Annual Meeting of the Japan Contact Lens Society.
Deborah S. Jacobs, MD
When All Else Fails: Contact Lenses for Dry Eye Disease
Deborah S. Jacobs, MD, is an ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and ocular surface disease. Dr. Jacobs earned an
undergraduate degree in Biology, summa cum laude, from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges in 1981. She was awarded
a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University in the U.K., where she earned an MSc in Physiological Sciences in 1983. She
attended Harvard Medical School, earning an M.D. in 1987. Dr. Jacobs trained as a Resident in Ophthalmology and then as
a Fellow in Cornea and External Diseases at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. From 1992-2006, she was Director of the
Cornea Service at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Since 2006, Dr. Jacobs has served as the Medical Director
at Boston Foundation for Sight, in Needham, MA. She is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Part-time, at Harvard
Medical School, where she directs the Core Medicine Clerkship in Ophthalmology, and sees patients in consultation at the
Massachusetts Eye & Ear Cornea Service. She served as President of CLAO from 2014 -2 016.

René Mély, MD
The French Study Group for Contact Lens Related Microbial Keratitis
René Mély, MD is an ophthalmologist who received his medical degree from the Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg
(France) in 1981. He completed his training in ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic of Homburg/Saar in Germany, and
served as head of the contact lens department from 1990 to 1991. In 1993 Dr. Mély opened a private ophthalmology practice
in Saarlouis/Germany, and in 2004 in Valmont/France. From 1994 to 2000 he was a co-editor of the International Medical
Contact Lens Journal Contactologia published by Enke-Verlag in Stuttgart (Germany). He served as a Secretary General of the
European Contact Lens Society of Ophthalmologists (ECLSO) from 2003 to 2011 and has been President in office since 2012.
Amy Nau, OD
“Doctor, My Eyes Turn Red and Hurt When I Wear my CL”: Therapeutic Options
for Contact Lens Intolerance
Amy Nau, OD is a research optometrist who divides her time between the practice of optometry and clinical research.
She graduated from the New England College of Optometry, and completed a residency in ocular disease with the Boston
VA Health Service. She has been on staff at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, and was an Assistant Professor and
Director of Optometric Services at the University of Pittsburgh with a secondary appointment at the McGowan Institute
of Regenerative Medicine after establishing the Sensory Substitution Laboratory. In 2013, she returned to Boston as a
Partner at Korb & Associates, a unique research based academic practice that focuses on dry eye and complex contact
lens fitting. She has been published extensively, and lectures nationally and internationally. Dr. Nau remains active in
mentoring graduate students and teaching, and holds a faculty position at the New England College of Optometry.
Michelle K. Rhee, MD
Out of the OR and into the Laser Suite: 15 minute Pterygium Excision Using the Latest Techniques
Michelle K. Rhee, MD is the current Scientific Programs Chair and President Elect of the Contact Lens Association of
Ophthalmologists (CLAO). She is a clinical and surgical instructor for the Mount Sinai Residency Program in Ophthalmology,
and has surgical expertise in refractive procedures such as LASIK and PRK, corneal, and cataract surgery. Dr. Rhee is the
co-director of Refractive Surgery Services at Mount Sinai and serves as associate director of Ophthalmology for Mount Sinai
at the Elmhurst Hospital Center. She completed subspecialty training in diseases of the cornea and refractive surgery at the
New York Eye and Ear Infirmary following a residency in ophthalmology at the Eye and Ear Institute of Pittsburgh. Dr. Rhee
earned her M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Brian L. Schwam, MD

Brian L. Schwam, MD serves as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Johnson and Johnson Vision Care, Inc. Dr. Schwan
assumed this role in November of 2012 and has responsibility for the Global Clinical and Medical Affairs (including Medical
Safety) organizations at Vision Care. In 2007, Dr. Schwam joined Vision Care as Director, Medical Affairs and Ocular Sciences
where he focused on both combination product development in R&D and Medical Affairs within Vistakon Pharmaceuticals.
Most recently, Brian led the Clinical Affairs organization including Clinical Operations, the Vistakon Research Clinic, and Data
Management and Biostatistics. Prior to joining Vision Care, Dr. Schwam practiced ophthalmology in the specialty of cornea/
external disease, cataract, and refractive surgery both in private practice and at the Mayo Clinic, where he was Assistant
Professor of Ophthalmology. While in practice, Dr. Schwam was a frequent lecturer on corneal disease and cataract/refractive
surgery to eye-care providers and other medical professionals. Brian is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive
Committee of the Vision Is Priceless Council (VIP), and is an active participant in the Volunteer HealthCare Provider Program at
several locations in Northeast Florida.

New Dry Eye Insight: Conjunctivochalasis as an Overlooked Cause
Scheffer C.G.Tseng, MD, PhD serves as Medical Director of Ocular Surface Center, providing the state-of-art Clinical Services to patients suffering from a variety of ocular surface and tear disorders. Dr. Tseng serves as Research
Director of Ocular Surface Foundation, educating and training research fellows who are specializing in ocular
surface biology, health, and diseases. Dr. Tseng serves as Director of Research & Development of TissueTech, Inc.,
Medical Director and Consultant of Bio-Tissue, Inc., and Director of Research & Development of Bio-Lipid, Inc.,
supervising a variety of research programs directed to study the pathogenesis of ocular surface and tear diseases,
and develop new tools and products for improving the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
Michael A. Ward, MMSc, FAAO, FCLSA
Contact Lens Management to Promote Epithelial Healing Following Corneal Surgery
Michael A. Ward, MMSc, FAAO, FCLSA recently retired from the Emory Eye Center, serving as an instructor in
Ophthalmology and a Director of the Contact Lens Service, section of Comprehensive Ophthalmology. His
particular interests are in contact lens management of keratoconus and other corneal ectasia, including visual
rehabilitation following corneal transplantation and refractive surgery (RK, PRK, LASIK). Other long-standing
interests include ocular microbiology, contact lens care product antimicrobial efficacies, and prevention of
product-associated ocular inflammations.
