Gazingly Note: The adverb form is rarely used in everyday speech. Example: I followed her gaze. Fleeting 13 Meaning: lasting for a very short time Fleetingly Example: For a fleeting moment I saw the face of a boy. Pristine 14 Meaning: in its original condition; unspoilt Example: Her dress was in pristine condition. (To) Puncture 15 Puncture Meaning: a small hole (usually in a tyre) resulting in an escape of air Example: She suffered a puncture after riding through a thorn bush. Despondent 16 Despondence Meaning: in low spirits from loss of hope or courage Despondently Example: He became more and more despondent. (To) Tether 17 Tether Meaning: a rope or chain with which an animal is tied to restrict its movement. Note: Overtime the meaning has gone beyond that of just being restricted to animals. For example in America they play tetherball (where a ball is tied to rope or string). Example: The horse was tethered to the post. 19 18 19 Arduous Meaning: involving or requiring strenuous effort; difficult and tiring Arduously Example: It had been an arduous journey over the Atlas Mountains. (To) Unveil Meaning 1: remove a veil or covering from something that is covered, usually as part of a ceremony Meaning 2: show or announce publicly for the first time. Example: The mayor unveiled a statue to the amazed crowd. 20 Flourish (To) Flourish Flourishing Meaning 1: a bold or extravagant gesture or action, made especially to attract attention Meaning 2: an impressive and successful act or period Example: With a flourish, she ushered in the curious customers to her brightly colored club.
