Mothers of Jundiaı´ Demonstrate
1b) The movement ‘‘Mothers of the Town Square of Jundiaı´’’, involving some 60 families
which have been protesting against the adoption of [local] children [by foreigners] in the city, will
complete a vigil of 204 hours in 51 days. The date will mark a [full] year of protests.
The year of protests will terminate a week after the removal from the Division of
the Court of Children and Youth, of the judge, Luiz Beethoven Giffoni Ferreira,
who has been accused of irregularities.
2a) O grupo alega ter perdido o pátrio poder das crianças de forma arbitrária em favor da
adoção internacional. O Tribunal da Justiça¸ a, a Procuradoria de Justiça do Estado, a
Polícia Federal e a Assembleia Legislativa de São Paulo investigam as denúncias.
2b) The group claims to have lost, in an unfair manner, their parental rights over their children to foreigners
[wishing to adopt them]. The Court (TJ), the State Attorney’s Office, the Federal Police, and the Legislative
Assembly of [the state of] São Paulo have been investigating the complaints.
3a) A marca do aniversário de um ano será a transformação do movimento em uma ONG nas
próximas semanas. As ‘‘mães’’ realizam amanhã um ato em frente ao Fórum, onde
protestaram sempre às segundas-feiras contra o juiz e contra a ex-promotora da Vara de
Infância, Inês de Oliveira Bicudo, também transferida para São Paulo. Inês é investigada
pela Corregedoria do Ministério Público.
3b) The conclusion of a year [of protesting] will be celebrated by the transformation of
the movement into an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) in the next few weeks.
The mothers will be demonstrating tomorrow in front of the ‘‘municipal court
building’’, where they have protested – always on Mondays – against the judge and the
ex-member of the Children’s Court, Inês de Oliveira Bicudo, also transferred to São
Paulo. Inês is being investigated by the legal branch of the Ministry of Public Affairs.
4a) Quatro dias depois, o movimento foi fundado oficialmente. Desde então, elas
realizam vigílias de, em média, quatro horas por dia na praça do Fórum.
4b) Four days later, the movement was officialy launched. Since then, [the mothers]
have been maintaining vigils of an average of four hours a day in the town square.

5a) A Procuradoria Pública já protocolou no TJ o pedido de anulação de pelo menos
12 processos de destituição de pátrio poder.

sentences of at least twelve processes removing parental rights
6a) A Comissão de Direitos Humanos da Assembléia Legislatvia do Estado investiga
também a suposta existência de uma conexão entre o juiz, a promotora e entidades
internacionais de adoção.
6b) The Human Rights Commission of the State Legislative Assembly is also investigating
the alleged existence of a connection between the judge, the member of the
Children’s Court, and international adoption agencies.
7a) Para a comissão, há indícios de irregularidades.
De acordo com Colagrossi, o juiz indicava crianças de Jundiaı´ para famílias europeias, principalmente da
Itália. ‘‘Atingimos metade dos objetivos com as transferências. Agora queremos que as crianças sejam
devolvidas’’, disse.
7b) In the opinion of the committee, there are indications of irregularities. According to Colagrossi, the
judge had been selecting children from Jundiaı´ for European families, especially in Italy. ‘‘We have
achieved half of our objectives with the transfers. Now we want the children returned,’’ he said.
8a) O juiz e a promotora negam todas as acusações feitas contra eles. Apesar de terem
sido transferidos de Jundiaí, nenhuma ligação com a adoção internacional foi provada.
Em apenas um processo, o pedido de anulação da adoção foi aceito.
8b) The judge and the ex-member of the Children’s Court deny the charges. Despite
their having been transferred from Jundiaı´, no link with international adoption has
been proved. In only one process has the request for annulment of an adoption been
