2. Course description
This course is the second of a three-semester introduction to calculus. It covers the topics of
integration, differential equations, sequences, series, and their applications. This corresponds to
chapters 6-10 of the textbook.

4. Course Aims
Calculus is a foundational course in SSH; it plays an important role in the understanding of the
natural sciences, economics, and computer science, among other disciplines. This course naturally
follows Calculus I, focusing more on:
1. applications;
2. techniques of integration;
3. sequences and series;
4. parametric and polar curves.
5. Course learning outcomes (CLOs)
5.1 By the end of the course the student will be expected to be able to:
1. Apply integration to compute volumes of revolution and surface areas for surfaces of
revolution;
2. Evaluate integrals using advanced techniques of integration;
3. Determine the convergence/divergence of improper integrals and evaluate convergent
improper integrals;
4. Determine the convergence/divergence of infinite series and compute
Taylor/Maclaurin series for functions;
5. Solve basic first-order differential equations by separation of variables or the method
of integrating factors;
6. Work with parametric and polar curves;
7. Identify types of conic sections from their equations in Cartesian or polar coordinates.

Students will be expected to:
• read all printed material and/or view all instructional videos posted by their instructor in the course’s
Moodle page;
• participate in any course meetings on Zoom or other meeting method;
• complete all quizzes and exams without communicating with other students;
• follow instructions from course instructor regarding proctoring of exams.
14. Academic Integrity Statement
Students are required to abide by the Student Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures (approved by the AC
on 05.02.2014), specifically, paragraphs 13-16 (plagiarism and cheating). Cheating will not be tolerated.
Working in groups on homework problems is encouraged. Talking to other students or looking at another
student’s exam is not allowed under any circumstances. Students suspected of cheating on quizzes or exams may
be asked to take an oral exam to be administered via Zoom. If there is a significant difference between the
student’s performance on the oral exam and original exam, the student may be given a grade of zero at the
instructor’s discretion. Failure to take an oral exam when requested will result in a grade of zero for the
assessment.
