DIFFERENTIAL EQUATION METHOD
 In this method the faulted line is modelled as
lumped series R-L circuit.
 The distributed nature of the line parameters as well
as the shunt capacitances are neglected.
 Thus we can relate the voltage & current at the relay
location and the resistance & inductance up to the
fault location with the help of the differential
equation.

 ix is the current in the faulted phase.
 iy is the function of all the three phase
currents.
 R & L are the functions of resistance &
inductance of the transmission line up to
the fault location.
