Altar Server's Prayers
An Altar Server’s Prayer Before Serving at Holy Mass
Heavenly Father, as I prepare to assist You at Your Altar, I declare my faith in
You.
During this Holy Mass, keep me from distractions.
Let me remember that in assisting Your Priest I am assisting Jesus
in offering You the merits of His passion and death.
I thank You for allowing me the opportunity to give my service to You.
At this Holy Mass, I join with Your Priest in offering You
the sacredBody and Blood of my Savior, Jesus Christ, Your Son.
May my sharing the Divine Food in Holy Communion bring me eternal salvation.
Amen.
(The Surplice is the smaller version of the Alb without the Cincture. Like the Alb, the Surplice represents
Baptism.
As a sign of respect, the Altar Server must kiss the right sleeve of his/her Alb/Surplice before and after wearing
it as he/she says the prayer for vesting.)

An Altar Server’s Prayer After Serving at Holy Mass
O Lord, Jesus Christ, Eternal High Priest,
I thank You for the privilege of having served at the holy altar of Your Sacrifice.
Now, as I put aside the garments of that service,
I ask that I may at all times think of You.
May I ever seek You and find You; May I always follow You;
may your priestly spirit be in my heart and Your Holy Name on my lips;
and to Your praise and glory may every work of mine be done.
Ever ready in Your service, may I always know and do
Your will in all things and, by Your grace, persevere unto the end.
Amen.

For the Cassock:
O Lord, the portion of my inheritance and my chalice, You are He
who will restore my inheritance.
For the Surplice:
Invest me, O Lord, as a new man, who was created by God in justice
and the holiness of truth. Amen.
