1. What is titration ?
Ans. The process of adding one solution from the burette to another in the titration flask in order to complete
the chemical reaction involved, is known as titration.
2. What is indicator ?
Ans. Indicator is a chemical substance which changes colour at the end point.
3. What do you mean by the term end point in a titration?
A. End point means completion of the reaction between the two solution, one taken in the volumetric flask
and the other added drop by drop from the burette.
4. What indicator is used in the titration of oxalic acid with sodium hydroxide ? Which solution is taken in
the burette and what is the end point ?
Ans. Phenolphthalein. Sodium hydroxide solution is taken in the burette. Appearance of pink colour is the
end point.
5. What is Ph? Can it be negative?
Ans. Ph = -log aH+
Ph may be negative
6. What is oxidation state of Cr in K2Cr2O7 ?
A. +6
7. What is redox titration?
A. The reactions which involve simultaneous oxidation and reduction are called redox titrations and
the titrations involving redox reactions are called redox titrations.
8. Why hot liquids should not be taken in the Burette?
A. Hot liquids should not be placed in the burette because the instrument is calibrated at a much lower
Temperature (15 to 20o C)
