• Became first sailor to
reach India
• Da Gama returned to
Portugal with loads of
spice and made a HUGE
profit.
• Portuguese returned in
1509 and defeated the
Muslim warships (trying
to defend their trade)

 Christopher Columbus- Believed he could reach
Asia by sailing west.
 Persuaded Queen Isabella to fund his exploration
