JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE
Dental Receptionist
DEPARTMENT
Dental Clinic

Front Office Manager

JOB PURPOSE
Manage the daily operation of the dental front office by scheduling
appointments, collecting and updating patient information, collecting
and posting payments, verifying insurance, and performing other
related clerical duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB RESULTS
1.
ASSIST PATIENTS AND VISITORS BY ANSWERING QUESTIONS, OFFERING CORRECT AND APPROPRIATE
INFORMATION, AND PROVIDING DIRECTION AS NEEDED
2. SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS AND ASSIST WITH PATIENT NEEDS/REQUESTS, VERIFY INSURANCE
BENEFITS, PREAUTHORIZE NEEDED DENTAL TREATMENT WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES, AND PRINT
NECESSARY INFORMATION FOR PATIENT REFERRALS
3. COLLECT, VERIFY, AND UPDATE PATIENT INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATE CHANGES AND/OR
INFORMATION TO DENTAL AND FRONT OFFICE STAFF AS NEEDED
4. ASSIST IN COORDINATING THE COLLECTION OF PATIENT AND INSURANCE INFORMATION FOR BILLING
AND COLLECTION PURPOSES
5. GENERATE VARIOUS TRACKING REPORTS FOR THE SUCCESSFUL OPERATION OF CLINIC PROTOCOLS
6. ACCURATLY POST PATIENT DATA, MANAGE DAILY CASH TRANSACTIONS, AND PREPARE RECONCILED
REPORT FOR BANK DEPOSITS
7. PERFORM ALL CLERICAL FUNCTIONS AS NEEDED AND DIRECTED
8. ADHERE TO HIPPA REGULATIONS BY MAINTAINING PATIENT CONFIDIENTIALITY
9. PARTICIPATE IN CONTINUED EDUCATION AND/OR SEMINARS RELATED TO JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
10. TRACK AND COORDINATE ROUTINE TASKS
11. MAINTAIN PROFESSIONALISM AT ALL TIMES TO ENSURE SERVICE QUALITY AND INTEGRITY
12. CONTRIBUTE TO TEAM EFFORT BY ACCOMPLISHING RELATED TASKS AS NEEDED OR REQUESTED
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Job Qualifications
Education:
Associate degree or equivalent academic study desirable
Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred
Experience:
Finalized: JE 6-25-13
Minimum of three (3) years Customer Service experience in related field
Customer Service Experience
One (1) year experience with bookkeeping and accounting
Knowledge of dental terminology, insurance claims, Medicare and Medicaid

Skills and Abilities








Knowledge of math and accounting procedures
Knowledge of clerical and office skills, with strong computer knowledge
Must display proper telephone etiquette and ability to communicate clearly
Must be highly organized and have ability to multi-task and complete assignments in a timely fashion
Ability to team-work in a sometimes stressful situation with phones ringing and patients/visitors at
window
Must be detail oriented and have ability to follow through with accurate information processing
Ability to evaluate discrepancies in data and documents using defined information sources and relate that
information to specified personnel
Responsible decision making by identifying correct answers and recommending action
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
 Work is performed in an interior medical/dental clinical environment
 Moderate physical activity
 May require handling average weight objects up to 25 pounds
 Sitting more than 6 hours a day
 Work environment may involve exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require


following extensive safety precautions
Possible exposure to blood or blood-borne pathogens
OSHA training
Qualifications for Employment






Pre-employment physical examination/medical history check
Documentation of Hep B vaccination/completed series. MVCHS will provide vaccination or waiver
BLS/CPR Certification
Proof of being free of Tuberculosis
Background investigation
Drug testing – Initial and Random
