About Dr. Gordon Kaplan
Dr. Kaplan is Board Certified with The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He completed his training in
Microsurgery, Reconstructive Surgery, and Replant Surgery at NYU Medical Center in NYC. He finished
his plastic surgery training at UMDNJ in Newark, New Jersey. Prior to his training in Plastic &
Reconstructive surgery, Dr. Kaplan practiced 5 years of General Surgery and was chief resident at the
well-known, and accomplished Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan, NY.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery involves breast implants or fat, referred to as fat transfer breast
augmentation, to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume that has been lost after
weight reduction or pregnancy.
The Benefits of a Breast augmentation:

Increase fullness and projection of your breasts

Improve the aesthetic balance and proportions of your figure

Enhance your self-image and self-confidence
Ideal Candidates for a Breast Augmentation:

Has aesthetic goals that breast augmentation can meet

Is 18 or older (22 or older for silicone gel breast implants)

Is in good general health

Is prepared to make an informed decision

Can afford the procedure
Breast Lift
Breast lift surgery can help you have fuller, perkier, shapelier breasts once again. In most cases, women
who have smaller breasts realize longer lasting results from breast lift surgery because their breasts
weigh less, but breasts of all sizes can be successfully lifted.
Ideal Candidates May Include:

Breasts that are pendulous but adequate in size

Breasts that lack substance or firmness

Nipples and areolas that point downward

Breasts that appear uneven where they sit

Breasts that are not equal in size

Breasts that are relatively small

You are finished with childbearing and breast-feeding. If you plan to have children, you may
want to postpone cosmetic breast surgery. Pregnancy may stretch the breasts and reduce their
volume, compromising surgery benefits
The Procedure
In most cases, breast lift surgery takes between 1-3 hours. There are several surgical techniques for
breast lift surgery, but the most commonly used involves an incision around the natural shape of the
breast defining the area of excess breast skin that will be removed.
After the removal of the excess breast skin, repositioning of the areola to a higher spot on the breast
occurs, followed by the skin being positioned around the areola and creation of the new breast shape.
Breast Reduction
Breast reduction surgery is meant to reduce the size of the breasts to improve the life of the patient. It
is classified as reconstructive rather than cosmetic because it is done to improve a condition rather than
a physical enhancement.
Ideal Candidate for Breast Reduction

Must be in good overall health

No active disease or pre-existing medical conditions

Realistic expectations of the outcome

Skin has good elasticity

Mental and emotional stability
The Procedure
Breast reduction surgery is usually performed with an anchor-shaped incision. This incision resembles
the shape of a boat anchor as it traces the areola, drops down, and follows the curve below the breast.
Through the incision, Dr. Kaplan will remove the extra tissue, fat, and skin that have caused your breasts
to be too large. Dr. Kaplan will also reposition the nipple and areola and will shape the breasts around
them, giving you a new, firmer contour.
Rhinoplasty
A rhinoplasty is a procedure that is able to reshape and reconstruct the form, restore function, and
aesthetically enhance the nose. Each rhinoplasty is specifically designed to resolve any concerns with
your nose.
Ideal Candidates

Men

Women

Any Ethnicity

Well-adjusted individuals

Snorers, other breathing issues

Anyone who has experienced an injury to the area

Anyone interested in finding out more information about non-invasive and invasive techniques
to improve nose
The Procedure
Your surgeon will decide whether your procedure will be performed through incisions made within your
nose or from outside your nose where incisions are made on the leading edge of your nose between
your nostrils. There are various methods for rhinoplasty.
Body Lift
A body lift improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin. Excess
sagging fat and skin are removed to treat conditions caused in part by poor tissue elasticity. In addition,
the procedure(s) can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface, commonly known as cellulite. A Body Lift
may include these areas:

Abdominal area, locally or extending around the sides and into the lower back area

Buttocks, that may be low, flat or shaped unevenly

Groin that may sag into the inner thigh

Thigh, including the inner, outer, or posterior thigh, or circumferentially
Ideal Candidates May Include:

Individuals with significant soft tissue looseness in one or multiple body areas

Healthy individuals without medical conditions that impair healing or increase risk of surgery

Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic goals for what body lift surgery can accomplish

Non-smokers

Individuals committed to leading a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition and fitness
Procedure:
A body lift procedure is designed based on the certain target areas. This can be considered a full body
makeover as it you consult Dr. Kaplan on your reconstructive expectations.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure to improve the overall appearance of the eyelids. Surgery can be
performed on either the upper and lower lids, or both. Whether you want to improve your appearance
or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the area
surrounding your eyes.
Eyelid surgery may treat the following issues:

Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid,
sometimes impairing vision

Excess fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids

Bags under the eyes

Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris

Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
The Procedure
Eyelid surgery is a relatively straightforward type of procedure. Your plastic surgeon will make a series of
small incisions that follow the shape of your lids around your eye. Within these incisions, your plastic
surgeon will lift the skin, eliminate fat deposits underneath, and tighten the muscle and skin to form the
new, tighter contour of your eyelids.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical technique that improves the body’s contour by removing excess fat from
deposits located between the skin and muscles.
Ideal Liposuction Candidates:

Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone

Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can
impair healing

Non-smokers

Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring
The Procedure
Liposuction is performed through small incisions using a narrow tube, called a cannula, and a suctioning
machine after anesthesia is administered. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates
tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. Post-operative, these tiny tunnels collapse and result in an
enhanced body contour.
Facelift
A facelift is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:

Sagging in the middle of your face

Deep creases below the lower eyelids

Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth

Fat that has fallen or has disappeared

Loss of skin tone in the lower face that creates jowls

Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw can give even a person of normal
weight the appearance of a double chin
Neck Lift
A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck, such as:

Excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates jowls

Excess fatty deposits under the chin

Loose neck skin

Muscle banding in the neck, which created abnormal contours
Tummy Tuck
Tummy tuck surgery, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated
muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
Ideal Candidates for a Tummy Tuck

You are physically healthy and at a stable weight

You have realistic expectations

You are a non-smoker

You are bothered by the appearance of your abdomen
Tummy tuck surgery is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill
someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.
The Procedure
Tummy tuck procedures can either be complete or partial. With a complete tummy tuck, Dr. Kaplan will
make a long incision across the lowest part of your abdomen from hip to hip. Another incision will be
made around your navel. With a partial tummy tuck, the incision across the abdomen will be much
shorter and there may be no incision around the navel. The lifted skin is stretched back into position and
excess skin is eliminated.
Filling in the Lines- Injectables
There’s literally a fine line between having an older fatigued appearance and a youthful rejuvenated
appearance. Fine lines and wrinkles are all part of the aging process but that doesn’t mean we have to
surrender to them willingly. Belotero Balance is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler designed to treat
superficial lines and moderate to severe wrinkles on the face. It is very natural looking and adds subtle
volume and plumpness to facial tissue with little to no downtime. Since the gel is softer than most other
products on the market, it integrates into facial skin more easily and adapts well to facial contours.
Restylane can be used to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial
wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth. Juvéderm is the first
smooth consistency gel formulation and only hyaluronic acid dermal filler approved by the FDA to last
up to one year from initial treatment. Injectable gel is injected into areas of the facial tissues to correct
moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, temporarily adding volume to the skin. Radiesse is an
injectable filler that not only provides immediate volume to your skin to diminish the signs of aging, but
it stimulates the production of your own collagen to grow. As time passes, the gel is absorbed and the
body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres leaving behind only your own natural collagen.
Latisse
Getting Latisse is as quick, easy, safe, painless and affordable as it can be. Using a small brush, you apply
the Latisse right on top of your lash line. With regular applications, you will be able to see longer, darker
lashes within a matter of weeks. Some clients even say that they see major improvements within days!
Surgical Recovery
Keeping in mind everyone will recover from surgical procedures at different paces, it is recommended to
avoid strenuous physical activity. It is important to follow the specific post-surgical instructions provided
by your surgeon. Scars may be inevitable with any surgery, although Dr. Kaplan will make every effort to
conceal the scars as much as possible. Scars may fade over time. There are minimal potential risks and
complications when following the step by step instructions provided by your surgeon.
Vectra XT 3D Imaging
The Kaplan Center is thrilled to announce the VECTRA XT 3D Imaging in the Edgewater, NJ office. This is
an amazing way for you to envision what your results may be before you actually get the procedure
done. This innovating new technology will give our patients a better understanding of the results they
may achieve after their procedure is done.
Using the VECTRA XT imaging machine, we can show you a prediction of your results for many different
face, body and breast procedures.
The process to reach these predictions is very simple. The machine is a stand-up machine. You’ll stand in
front of it, and multiple cameras will take pictures of your body, breasts or face from various angles. The
VECTRA XT system creates 3D representations of the treatment area based on these images. Dr. Kaplan
will be able to use these images to show you how the area of your body looks now and what it will look
like after the specific procedure is performed. Giving you a much better idea of your results rather than
before & after photos that were previously used.
Selecting A Plastic Surgeon
A qualified plastic surgeon will be board-certified in plastic surgery. Any surgeon who performs any
cosmetic or plastic surgery should be board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. These
organizations hold their members to the highest standards.
Expertise
Like all medical professions, plastic surgery is continuing to change and advance; new techniques and
technologies are being continuously developed. The best plastic surgeons continue to undergo further
training in their area of specialty.
Experience
Leading plastic surgeons have completed internships and fellowships in their area of specialty. This is
important to achieving the hands-on experience in their profession, as they are working with highly
experienced doctors at that point. Additionally, the plastic surgeon you select should have extensive
experience in the procedure you are considering.
Trust
Patients should feel comfortable asking the plastic surgeon of their choice how long they have been in
practice, how many liposuction procedures they have performed, and why the doctor became a plastic
surgeon. Your surgeon will come to know intimate details of your body and self-image and you have
every right to insure you feel comfortable and at ease with your doctor.
A Note from Dr. Gordon Kaplan
As a medical professional I will ask many questions to assure I have a full understanding of what your
desired aesthetic goals are and if your expectations are realistic to achieve. Most importantly, I seek to
provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your options, so that you can make a sound and
educated decision when selecting your cosmetic treatments.
