To the Parents of Interested Applicant: Greetings from Engineering Ministries International – East Africa (EMI-EA) in Kampala! Thank you for taking time to consider your son or daughter’s interest in serving with us. I have included further information about EMI-EA and our internship program below. We feel it is important for you to be fully informed of the opportunity in which your child is expressing interest. EMI-EA is a Non-Governmental Organization and is registered with the NGO Board of Uganda. EMI-EA is a network of architects and engineers who donate design services to Christian organizations serving the poor in Uganda and other countries in East Africa. Our parent organization, Engineering Ministries International (EMI), has designed development projects in over 90 countries around the globe. EMI-EA is the base for executing these projects within East Africa. Our staff consists of multi-national design professionals. EMI-EA provides architectural and structural designs necessary for Christian organizations to construct schools, orphanages, hospitals, churches, training centers, etc. as well as small-scale water and wastewater systems. Designs for each project are compiled into a report with drawings and cost estimates. Organizations use EMI-EA reports for fund raising, program planning, and construction. EMI-EA designs facilities in the building and infrastructure sector. Therefore, opportunities for service are typically limited to architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, surveyors, and construction managers. EMI-EA offers international design internships to young professionals that include practical design experience under the supervision of registered design professionals. This gives the opportunity to collaborate with international design professionals on multi-disciplinary design projects that focus on poverty relief and development. EMI-EA interns get a chance to enrich their professional and spiritual development while using their skills to serve the poor. These internships are open to East African nationals. All internships are voluntary. Additionally, candidates selected for the internship are expected to reside in EMI-EA’s Kajjansi-based intern housing. The cost of the internship will be the project trip travel costs (from Kampala to site, cost will vary depending on location in Uganda) plus a fee which contributes to EMI-EA’s overhead (which varies depending on the length of service). Housing and meals are provided, as is an orientation and debriefing program, and every intern is supplied with all the equipment, tools and supplies they will need to do their work. We encourage our applicants to solicit prayer and financial support from their friends, relatives, and church family when they prayerfully commit themselves to this internship. Please let us know if you have any further questions, especially if you have any concerns about your child serving with us.
