How does Proposition 65 affect AdvoCare products sold in the State of California?
Proposition 65 (Prop 65) is a unique California-only “right to know” law that requires products
sold in California to include warning notices about potential exposure to any of the 800+
chemicals or elements listed by the State of California, regardless of if they are naturally
occurring in plants and herbs. AdvoCare uses a number of extracts and herbal ingredients in its
products that are derived from plants. Because lead occurs naturally in all soil and is taken up
by plants, it will be present in the extracts and herbal ingredients at low, non-harmful levels.
Something as simple and common as chocolate can contain naturally-occurring lead derived
from the soil in which the cocoa plant grew. Actionable levels, measured in parts per billion,
represent a fraction of the total lead to which we are exposed daily through food, water and
air pollution.
What other kinds of food are affected?
Many foods contain certain levels of one or more of the substances listed by the State of
California under Prop 65. In many cases, the exposure levels established by Prop 65 are less
than what occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, grains and even drinking water.
Should I be worried about Consuming AdvoCare products?
AdvoCare products are formulated with the highest regard for safety and efficacy. Guided by
our prestigious AdvoCare Scientific and Medical Advisory Board, AdvoCare offers only the
highest quality ingredients and standardized herbal extracts for best absorption, well balanced
nutrition and consistent results. Our products are regularly tested for purity and potency, and
many are routinely tested as part of the most comprehensive banned substance certification
program for dietary supplements in the world.
Why does AdvoCare put notices in its California shipments?
Because AdvoCare uses a number of extracts and herbal ingredients in its products which
include naturally-occurring lead from the soil, the State of California requires a standard
warning notice in the shipment boxes. This notice is only required for shipments to
California consumers.
AdvoCare never intentionally adds heavy metals or any toxic substances to our products which
are intended to promote good health and wellness. It is generally understood that lead and
other heavy metal substances occur naturally in the environment and are found in trace
amounts which are still above Prop 65’s extremely low warning levels. By law, we must enclose
the warning even though AdvoCare knows that its products are safe and that the levels of lead
are far below those known to cause any harmful effect.
