5 Times You Shouldn’t Brush
25 words:
Smile Tip: Brushing in the shower exposes your mouth to millions of microbes. Brush at the
sink for a healthy smile.
Smile Tip: Brushing right after you eat digs harmful acid deeper into your teeth. Swig some
water and wait 30 minutes to brush to keep your smile healthy.
Smile Tip: Brushing after you get sick is harmful for your teeth. Swish with water or rinse with
mouthwash and wait 30 minutes to brush.
Smile Tip: Sharing toothbrushes makes you more susceptible to illness. Make sure everyone in
your house has their own.
200 words:
Life can be hectic. And sometimes our life hacks aren’t the best—especially when it comes to
brushing our teeth. Here are 5 times when brushing isn’t such a good idea:
1. In the shower
There are millions of microbes in your showerhead. Brushing in the shower exposes your mouth
to all of those bathtub bacteria.
2. After you eat
Brushing right after you eat actually digs harmful acid deeper into your grin. Instead, take a
swig of water and wait 30 minutes to brush.
3. After you toss your cookies
Brushing immediately afterwards is just as harmful as brushing right after you eat. Swish with
water or rinse with mouthwash while you wait to brush.
4. On the toilet
Brush at least 6 feet away from the toilet— bacteria can get airborne and into your mouth
(gross!).
5. With your partner
We know you smooch, but sharing a toothbrush is different. It makes you more susceptible to
illness and infection.
Now that you know when not to brush, pay attention to when and how you’re performing the
dental deed. Here’s to your smart smile!
