Mercedes Sierra appointed Head of SENER Grupo de Ingeniería's
Organization and Resources Management
Madrid, September 11, 2012 - Mercedes Sierra has been appointed Head of Organization and Resources
Management at SENER, an engineering and technology group that works in the Aeronautics, Energy and
Environment, and Engineering and Construction fields. The group, which currently employees over 5,200
professionals, has offices on four continents and has a turnover of €1.16 billion (2011 figures).
The position of Head of Organization and Resources Management has been created in order to
coordinate the actions of all of the group's affiliated companies. These include the multidisciplinary
engineering company SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas, the aeronautical engine company Industria de
Turbopropulsores ITP, and power plants such as the Zabalgarbi municipal solid waste treatment plant and
the Valpuren Comatur and Valpuren Bañuelo manure treatment plants, together with Torresol Energy,
which develops concentrated solar power plants.
In her new position, Sierra will be responsible for promoting organizational development, spreading
management best practices, and overseeing the application of internal standards to all of the SENER
Group companies.
Mercedes Sierra joined SENER Ingeniería y Sistemas in 1985 and was with the company for 20 years,
during which time she was in charge of international and multidisciplinary contracts. Then, from 2005 to
2009, she worked as Director of the Aerospace Department at the Spanish Center for the Development of
Industrial Technology (CDTI), and represented the Spanish government in numerous organizations and at
international conferences, including at the European Space Agency (ESA) and on the Boards of Directors
of HISPASAT, GSS (Galileo Sistemas y Servicios) and the ORC (Orbital Recovery Corporation). In July 2009
she returned to SENER, working at its San Francisco office as VicePresident and Head of Concentrated
Solar Power Business Development in the United States.
Sierra holds a Master in Structural Engineering and in History of Art. She has also completed an
Executive MBA at IESE Business School.
