










Sky & Telescope: One of our favorite all-purpose astronomy websites. From the home page,
look under "Observing," then click "This Week's Sky at a Glance." Lots of other good stuff
here, too.
Weather Underground: This is a good weather forecast page for the Young Harris, GA area.
Current Satellite Image: This takes you to a current geostationary satellite image, showing
cloud cover, etc.
Clear Sky Clock: This interesting site gives a graphical prediction of when the area around
Brasstown Bald (which includes Young Harris) will have good weather for astronomical
observing.
Heavens Above: Great site for satellite visibility predictions, plus spectacular events such as
the dazzlingly bright flares from Iridium satellites. Under "Configuration," select your current
observing site from their map or database.
Space Weather: This site gives you the latest news and information on solar activity, such as
sunspots, flares, and displays of the aurora borealis, or “Northern lights.”
NASA News: What’s happening at NASA lately? This site serves as your gateway to the vast
NASA online universe.
Hubble Space Telescope: The latest images from the Hubble Space Telescope are posted
here.
Amazing Space: This is a set of web-based activities designed for classroom use. The lessons
are interactive and include spectacular photos taken by Hubble and many high quality
graphics, videos, and animations designed to enhance student understanding and interest.
Orion Telescopes: Orion is one of the favorites among amateur astronomers for scopes and
accessories. Their "Learning Center" has some very informative articles. (Note: the inclusion
of this link should not be construed as an endorsement for any particular company.)
Bad Astronomy: This site is devoted to airing out myths and misconceptions in astronomy,
whether on TV, in the movies, or by word of mouth.
