“L
aunched in 2013, the Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation is grounded in Coverys’ 41-year commitment to the health care field.
The foundation’s working group, led by Donna M. Norris, MD, is made up of five Coverys board members who give their time and
collective passion for making the world a healthier place. This commitment guides much of the foundation’s giving and the support of
initiatives that have real impact on improved health care quality, access, and outcomes.
“Our shared mission to improve community health compelled our support for the Harvard Chan School’s Department of Nutrition. We have
provided funding for an analysis of grocery store purchases to inform the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), as well as a survey
of residents living in a lower-income Boston neighborhood to guide the design of streets that encourage bicycle riding. More recently, we have
funded the production of an educational video series about diet tips, truths, and myths.
“The most compelling aspect of the research done by leading experts—such as Eric Rimm, Anne Lusk, and Walter Willett—is
the potential impact on at-risk populations and improvements in the standards of health for everyone. The Department of Nutrition’s
research is essential in advancing community well-being, and we knew our support would be deftly leveraged within Boston and the
broader health care sphere.”
