Wanted
There are many Greek gods, goddesses and mythological creatures (each of which has his/her/its own characteristics, stories, features, etc.). For this
assignment you will do a little “skimming” through the various Greek gods, goddesses and mythological creatures and narrow your search to ONE.
Choose ONE Greek god, goddess or creature to research.
Some ideas to help you determine what information is “necessary” are as follows:
- physical description
- powers (this is often times [but not always] what the individual is “Wanted” for)
- events in his/her/its life that may have shaped/changed who he/she/it is
- people in his/her/its life that may have shaped/changed who he/she it is
- outcomes of his/her/it’s wrong doings/good deeds
- other “fun facts”
Example: Medusa
- snakes for hair, hideous (but used to be gorgeous)
- can turn living things into stone by looking at them
- when she was mortal and pretty she met her lover in the temple of Athena (a no no). Athena was upset at the disrespect for such a sacred place that she
killed
Medusa’s lover and turned Medusa into a monster and sent her away for good
- her blood contains magical power because she became an enchanted being through Athena
- when she died (Perseus killed her) Pegasus (winged horse) came out of her blood
- her head is in Zeus’s shield (the aegis) and Athena (his fav daughter) carries it
From your research/note-taking, you will be responsible for creating a “WANTED” poster for your Greek god/goddess or creature.
*Why do people make “WANTED” posters? For people who have committed crimes/wrong doings
* But What if your god/goddess/creature is a “do-gooder”? How can you tweak a “WANTED” to work for them?
IDEAS
*A “call for help” – Plead for the help of a god/goddess/creature, but be sure to “play to their strengths”. Talk
about their prior actions that have helped label them as helpers. (Could make the call for help sarcastic).
Example: HELP WANTED: Medusa we need your help turning plastic furniture into stone.
*Turn it into an award/reward. Think about how an award presenter talks about the person who is getting the
award. Then tell about their life, their achievements, etc.
Example: The “Most Dangerous Glare” Award goes to Medusa! Originally a jaw-droppingly beautiful mortal, Medusa… OR
Medusa has gone missing from the creature convention. If you spot her call…if your tip leads to her capture you can
claim a reward.
*Criminal Wanted Poster. Think about the “Wanted” posters or billboards that you see on a highway or in a police
station. Then describe a crime your “character” committed.
Example: Medusa wanted for turning King Polydectes into stone!
*Optional* Have fun with the project by creating a sarcastic/ironic tone–
Example: WANTED: Medusa for aggressive eye contact … If you see this mortal turned monster, be sure to keep away
even the slightest bit of eye-contact. Originally a jaw-droppingly beautiful mortal, this now turn-anything-living-to-stoneby-a-glance monster is not to be trusted.
REQUIREMENTS:
Poster must include:
~ an 4-5 sentence paragraph that includes the necessary information (see above) written in strong, well-developed
sentences that utilize varied sentence structure, solid word choice, and thoughtful phrasing.
~ a visual of the god/goddess/creature (printed/hand drawn/from a magazine, etc.)
~other visuals that make the poster appealing.
~title-who is wanted and what for?
WANTED
Someone Who Can Make Stone Patio Furniture
There is a huge bash happening on Mount Olympus Saturday night.
Everyone who is anyone is invited to Zeus’s home for his wedding
anniversary (to which wife you are probably asking…but who
cares—it’s a party!). As his party planner, I am in desperate
need of some patio furniture. The last party ended when a fight
broke out between his two sons, Apollo and Ares. The entire
outside was destroyed, hence my need for sturdier furniture.
Due to the propensity for violence among the Gods, I want this
furniture to be stone. So…Medusa if you are available, I would
like you to turn the flimsy furniture that remains into strong
stone! I know that you were once a jaw-dropping, head-turning
mortal that attended these parties, but now that you are—let’s
say changed—this is your way to be a part of the festivities.
Medusa, please answer this advertisement, stop by the
magnificent mansion and look at the not-even-suitable-for-ademigod furniture. If you help out, you would be known as a
hero among the guests. That is except for Athena because she
will never forgive you for disgracing her temple. What do you
say?
