Emergency Medical Technician Advanced Certificate of Credit
The AEMT is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide basic emergency medical care for critical and
emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills
necessary to provide patient care and transportation. The AEMT’s function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under
medical oversight. AEMT’s perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance. The
AEMT is a link from the scene into the health care system.
The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Program includes basic and limited advanced skills focused on the acute
management and transportation of critical and emergent patients. The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician has the
knowledge associated with, and is expected to be competent in, all of the skills of the EMR and EMT. This program follows the
guidelines set by the National Scope of Practice Model and is designed to help prepare individuals for licensure as an Advanced
Emergency Medical Technician by the Tennessee Department of Health, Division of Health Licensure and Regulation, Office of
Emergency Medical Services.
This certificate is not covered by Financial Aid.
