MONDAY:
No School
TUESDAY:
Deer Valley 2nd Semester Science Pre Test.
Students will take the second semester pretest to show what content they might have prior knowledge
of. This should take most of the period. The remaining time will be spent finishing the introduction to
forensics video.
No Homework
WEDNESDAY:
Forensics introduction. Students will begin their unit on forensic science. Students will first go through
observations and the positives and negatives of eye witness statements. We will cover several biases
that aid what we feel we see when we make observations, and use the power of description and
observation to create composite sketches.
Students will then go into the basics of blood type as a precursor for Thursday’s lab.
No Homework.
THURSDAY:
Blood Typing Lab
Students will use their understanding of blood type to help them potentially tie a suspect to a fictitious
crime. Students will take their evidence and deduce a primary suspect to continue to investigate.
Though blood typing has since given way to DNA testing, this lab is good to help students refine their
measurement techniques, and to develop their abilities to tie evidence into the establishment of an
inference.
Homework: Complete the inference from the blood typing lab
FRIDAY:
Students will use their observations and measurement techniques to create detailed data tables that
will enable them to determine the composition of an unknown substance. Students will take properties
measured of 6-8 known powders, and use them to identify a combination of unknowns found at a
scene. Powders used include 2 types of salt, baking soda, sugar, starch, and 2 other cooking based
powders.
