What is Preceptorship?
Preceptorship is a transition period for all Newly-Qualified & Return to Practice Health Care
Professionals during which you receive structured support to help you develop from students to
autonomous professionals.
What does Preceptorship Involve?
Preceptorship includes support within your workplace from a Preceptor. Your Preceptor is a more
senior member of staff who will be allocated to you by your line manager when you start your new
job. Your Preceptor will support you in adjusting to your new role and your continuous professional
development. You will also be enrolled on the Preceptorship Programme which will take place
throughout your first year of work.
What is the Preceptorship Programme?
The Preceptorship Programme is a course of whole-day workshops, undertaken during the first year
of work post-qualification, designed to support you in developing your skills and confidence as a
health professional. It is a great opportunity to meet other colleagues in a similar situation and is
supported by regular clinical supervision within your workplace.
Aims of the Preceptorship Programme:
