38th International Annual Meeting of the Society for the Study of Pathophysiology of Pregnancy (Organisation Gestosis). To be held at the Stamford Hotel, Adelaide, Australia between 5-7 March 2006. The next annual meeting of the Organisation Gestosis is to be held in Adelaide, Australia in 2006. This will be the first meeting of this International body in Australia, and it has been planned to precede the International Congress on “Human Reproductive Health through the Ages” organised by the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the Universities in Adelaide, to be held from 8-10 March 2006. This will enable overseas visitors and Australian Physicians, Obstetricians/Gynaecologists, Neonatal Paediatricians, and research scientists to attend both meetings, should they desire to do so. The programme has been designed to also cater for the needs of Trainees within the RANZCOG and the needs of midwives who are directly involved in the care of high-risk patients, such as those with severe Gestosis(pre-eclampsia), who clearly have an increased incidence of intra-uterine growth restriction and intra-uterine and intra-partum hypoxia. It is anticipated that at least 100 persons will attend the Meeting. The programme has been designed so that there will be 4 twenty to thirty minute lectures by International and Australian Specialists in each of the 2 plenary sessions held on the mornings of the 2 days of the meeting, with the 2 afternoons set aside for the special Workshops on CTG assessment and use of Ultrasound, or for free communication presentations on different clinical or research areas of Gestosis (pre-eclampsia). There will also be an opening reception held on the evening of Sunday 5 th March 2006. The actual topic areas to be covered in Plenary Sessions are as follows: 1. Monday 0830-1030 An International Perspective of Gestosis(pre-eclampsia) through the ages- the condition itself, changes in care, the prognosis for the mother and baby, and the differences in presentation and outcomes in different countries? This will be followed by a series of presentations on “ The Aetiology and Prevention of pre-eclampsia” 0830 Opening ceremony: Prof Roger Pepperell - Australian Representative for OG, Congress President, Hon.Academician of OGASH (www.gestosis.ge/eng/26_7.php) 0845 Initial presentation : An International Perspective of EPH-Gestosis through the ages- the condition itself, changes in care, the prognosis for the mother and baby, and the differences in presentation and outcomes in different countries? If you wish to submit a Free communication abstract, please follow the rules on the attached document and submit this BEFORE 21/01/2006. The 2 workshops will cover the important assessment areas required in all patients with Gestosis (preeclampsia). These are 1. Monday 1400-1700 The use of CTG assessment of the fetus antenatally and in labour. This workshop will be led by Dr David Morris. It will detail the basis of the CTG assessment, and will indicate the relevance of the various abnormalities which are able to be detected, and the further assessment or care required when these abnormalities are defined. Examples of the abnormalities seen in high risk pregnancies, such as those of patients with Gestosis (pre-eclampsia), will be considered in detail. This workshop will be of particular value to practicing obstetricians and trainees, and also midwives working in tertiary institutions or in hospitals with limited obstetric facilities, but where CTG monitoring is expected to be available and assessed adequately. 2. Tuesday 1400-1700 The use of ultrasound in high risk pregnancy care. This workshop will be led by Professor Brian Trudinger, and will cover the major uses of ultrasound in Obstetric practice, particularly where the pregnancy is complicated by or likely to be complicated by Gestosis (pre-eclampsia). Umbilical Artery Doppler Study (Prof. Brian Trudinger) Pathology and pathogenesis of the placental vasculopathy underlying the flow pattern disturbance. The notion of a fetal and maternal syndrome. The use of umbilical Doppler in clinical practice. First trimester studies. 3D and 4D Ultrasound in Fetal Medicine. (Dr Shaun Choong) Fetal and amniotic fluid measurements, site of the umbilical cord- their clinical usefullness, the frequency of assessment, when are differences in measurement significant in multiple pregnancies.
