“The distinguished General Dentistry
Residency Program came to life
under the watchful guidance of Dr.
Stanley Handelman. His mentorship
and friendship have been integral
to shaping my career, and his legacy
as the father of postdoctoral general
dentistry education will have a
profound impact on residents for
generations to come.”
—Dr. Hans Malmstrom
Leading the World in General Dentistry Education
At the Eastman Institute for Oral Health (EIOH), our highly
competitive, world-renowned Advanced Education in General
Dentistry program has long been sought after to train dentists for
future roles in research, academia, and practice. Today, our program
remains unparalleled. Each year, hundreds of dentists from around the
globe apply for less than two dozen positions.
Our residents train in all aspects of dentistry, working collaboratively
with faculty in all dental fields to provide state-of-the-art patient care
and research and educational advancements. For example, we now
have an Advanced Faculty Development program—an educational
partnership with the Simon Business School and the Warner School of
Education—to supplement traditional dental education with business
acumen and educational training.
Our program also emphasizes the importance of clinical research
and the development of innovative ideas. As we look to the future,
our goal is to be a world leader in clinical research, using the latest,
evolving technologies, and improving and expanding opportunities for
residents to network and present research in unprecedented ways.
We must recruit additional faculty to further develop our exceptional
programs, fund clinical renovations, and consistently incorporate the
latest technologies used in dental treatment. Your philanthropy will
help us reach new heights in our pursuit of redefining the benchmarks
by which the world defines dental education, research, and practice.
With your support, we can help people around the world by
providing innovative resident oral health training and strengthen our
curriculum in state-of-the-art facilities with the latest equipment and
diagnostic tools.
Your gift will help us Provide Training and Cutting-Edge Technology to General Dentists Worldwide
100 years ago, George Eastman recognized the vital importance of good oral health and its relationship to your overall health.
Today, your philanthropy can help us to proudly carry on George Eastman’s legacy, continuing our significant impact around the
world in research, clinical training, and helping the underserved and people with special needs. Join us today to make an impact in
Rochester, the nation, and the world.
NAMING THE ADVANCED FACULTY DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM— Please inquire
ENDOWED TECHNOLOGY FUND—$250,000 to
$1,000,000
With your gift to name the Advanced Faculty Development
Program, we can recruit additional faculty, expand our
enrollment, and become an international model for the training
of dental professionals. This will provide residents, in perpetuity,
with the skills they need to not only become exceptional
dentists, but to effectively run a dental practice or a dental
school, and learn how to educate other professionals and staff to
excel in dental education, research, and care.
The field of dentistry is constantly evolving and changing
to best suit patients’ needs. Your support of an endowed
technology fund will help us provide the latest technology
to train our residents, and to provide safe, comfortable care
to the patients we serve. Your gift would help add everevolving technologies such as scanners, CAD, cameras,
and lasers to the armamentarium used in the treatment of
dental patients.
ENDOWED PROFESSORSHIPS—$1,500,000 to
$2,000,000
RESIDENT EDUCATION FUNDS—$50,000 to
$100,000
Endowed professorships are permanent funds that honor
acclaimed leaders who perform groundbreaking research,
mentor junior faculty, and attract and retain talented fellows,
residents, and students. Recognizing and fostering excellence,
this is one of the most coveted and defining rewards a faculty
member can receive. Professorships also serve as a powerful
recruitment tool, drawing new faculty of established distinction
from around the world.
At the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, our general
dentistry graduates become leaders in their field, having
distinguished careers in academics and practice that
encompass research, education and patient care. Our
residents must have opportunities to travel in order to
teach, to network among peers at professional conferences,
and to present at scientific meetings; simply, to broaden
one’s horizons. Finding funds to consistently support these
opportunities is a challenge. Your support will allow general
dentistry residents to travel to educational meetings and
international electives, and to support educational initiatives
that could not be otherwise funded.
ENDOWED FELLOWSHIPS—$750,000
Fellowships provide significant work experiences for scientists
to conduct in-depth research that advances oral health. These
fellowships provide permanent support, allowing fellows
to complete their training without having to devote time to
working outside their field, or resorting to additional loans
for support.
NAMING THE GENERAL DENTISTRY CLINIC—$500,000
Your gift to name the General Dentistry Clinic at Eastman
Dental will allow us to renovate the clinic and provide the very
best resident training and patient care environment.

GEORGE EASTMAN CIRCLE—$10,000 to $50,000
Pledges to the George Eastman Circle of $10,000 to $50,000,
payable for five years, provide crucial, flexible support for
the General Dentistry program. Funds can help the program
take advantage of new opportunities in research, support
post-doctoral fellows for one year, or allow our Master’s and
Ph.D. students, and post-doctoral fellows to present their
work at national scientific seminars and conferences and
learn from mentors in the field of oral health.
