CONSULTATION TO THE MANAGEMENT BOARD ON THE EXTENSION
OF THE VENEZUELA PROJECT “TECNOLOGÍAS APROPIADAS Y APROPIABLES
EN CONSTRUCCIÓN, SANEAMIENTO BÁSICO AMBIENTAL Y ENERGÍAS ALTERNAS”
(ME-042/07)
The Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and Development
(IACD) presents its compliments to the members of the Management Board and on the instructions
of its Chair, Mr. Máximo Romero Jiménez, Director General of Technical and Scientific Cooperation
of the Secretariat of External Relations of Mexico, has the honor of informing them that it has
received a communication from Venezuela requesting a decision from its members concerning the
extension until July 31, 2009 of the project “Tecnologías Apropiadas y Apropiables en Construcción,
Saneamiento Básico Ambiental y Energías Alternas” (ME-042/07).
The reasons presented by Venezuela to justify the request are presented below:
The Project is in its final stages: there is only one final work meeting to take place, which is
extremely important for the sustainability of the Project. The meeting had to be postponed
several times due to the fact that the project is being carried out in areas of the Amazon that
are difficult to access. These zones were affected by terrible rains (it has not stopped raining
since November of 2008) which made access very arduous.
The Secretariat also wishes to inform the Management Board that said project was the only
project financed for Venezuela during the FEMCIDI 2007 programming cycle and that the country
has no project under the FEMCIDI 2008 programming cycle.
The Executive Secretariat would very much appreciate receiving the opinion of the members
of the Management Board of the IACD on this consultation no later than May 14, 2009. In
accordance with Article 19.1 of the Rules of Procedure of the Management Board, the absence of a
reply by that date will be taken as acceptance of the extension request.
