Brief on the diaper drives
In an effort to strengthen our community by serving the poor and underserved, our district governor has
initiated a districtwide diaper drive. Currently 21% of children in the United States are living below the
federal poverty line. Although there are programs that assist low income families with food, nutritional
supplements and housing, no federal programs offer diaper assistance. According to the Yale School of
Medicine, many mothers keep their children in soiled diapers because of limited access to clean ones
resulting in skin rashes and urinary tract infections. This study also tied poor maternal mental health to a
lack of diapers. The study of 877 women was here in the city of New Haven but is not just a local
problem. Please consider starting a diaper drive for your club, or you can participate in the Community
Diaper Program set-up through the Cheshire Lion’s Club for distribution to the Connecticut Diaper Bank.

Good Morning Lions,
Lions of 23A, below is a flyer with important information about an upcoming event on Sept. 25th. The Centennial Bus
tour with International President Bob Corlew is coming to CT and making 2 stops. Won't you be there!!!!
With this flyer I am also asking District 23A to arrive early at the Milford stop, around 11:00, and help organize the diaper
drive and group photo in front of the Centennial bus. Diaper drives from clubs in 23A is a goal toward 100% club this
year. Did you know that women in poverty have experienced increased symptoms of depression because they can not
provide the necessary diapers for their babies which cause rashes and infection to the child. What a way to show our
International President what we can do when we set our mind to it. I am calling the CT Diaper bank this week to see if
they can have their truck at the event to fill with the donations. Clubs can participate in the drive and be there for the
International President's arrival to greet him.
I believe the lunch will sell out as the capacity is 100. It is not often that we can bring in new members at an event with
the International President Inducting them. We are also looking to get the media involved and some press on the event.
Please spread the word, and RSVP quickly if you would like to attend the lunch.
Sincerely,
District Governor,
Colette Anderson
