Cancellation of your Appointment
Please remember, if you are unable to attend an appointment in surgery, please let us
know as soon as possible as we can offer the appointment to someone else. 102
patients do not attend their appointments during July 2015.
Chaperone Service
If during your consultation a physical examination is necessary please note that a chaperone service is
available to oversee the examination at your request.
Would you like to join our ‘Patient Virtual Group’?
What is the ‘Practice Patient Virtual Group’?
The ‘Practice Patient Virtual Group’ would be a group of patients that we would contact via email to
answer any questionnaires specific to the practice and any Barnsley service.
The surgery will ask the group questions to gain perspective on certain issues of the surgery,
for example:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Whether we could improve services here at Woodland Drive Medical Centre and how?
Whether a certain type of service could be useful at Woodland Drive Medical Centre?
What would patients like to see as a service at the surgery?
How do you rate getting an appointment at the surgery?
If you feel this is something you would like to take part in then please fill in a ‘Practice Patient Virtual
Group’ form which can be requested from the receptionist at the main reception desk. Upon receipt of
your form the Practice Manager will email you confirming membership etc.
Practice Website
The revised website will go live in October 2015. The website will be where you can find out all you
need to know about our practice and the services we offer.
Accountable GP for all Patients’
From the 1st April 2015, the practice is required under the terms of the latest GP Contract to allocate all
patients (including children) a named accountable GP who is responsible for patients overall care at the
Practice and who will take lead responsibility for the coordination of all services required under the
contract.
Dr Amjed Ali is the named GP for our practice.
Having a named GP does not prevent you seeing any other doctor or nurse in the practice as you
currently do. Your named GP will not be available at all times and if you needs are urgent, you may
need to discuss them with an alternative doctor or nurse.
You do not need to take any further action, but if you have any questions, or wish to discuss this further
with us, please contact us on 01226 282535.
Free Shingles Vaccinations!!
We continue to actively offer Shingles Vaccine to our patients who are aged 70, 78 and 79 years old. If
you are interested in receiving this vaccination please ask at Reception.
Flu Vaccination (September 2015 to March 2016)
Flu vaccination by injection, commonly known as the "flu jab" is available every year on the NHS to
protect adults (and some children) at risk of flu and its complications. Flu can be unpleasant, but if you
are otherwise healthy it will usually clear up on its own within a week.
However, flu can be more severe in certain people, such as:




anyone aged 65 and over
pregnant women
children and adults with an underlying health condition (particularly long-term heart or
respiratory disease)
children and adults with weakened immune systems
Anyone in these risk groups is more likely to develop potentially serious complications of flu, such
as pneumonia (a lung infection), so it's recommended that they have a flu vaccine every year to protect
them. The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS as an annual injection to:


adults over the age of 18 at risk of flu (including everyone aged 65 and over)
children aged six months to two years at risk of flu
Accident & Emergency
Patients are reminded that the Hospital A&E Department is for patients who have had an accident or
require emergency medical help only. For all non-emergency medical problems patients should see
their GP or when surgery is closed ring 111. Your local Pharmacy also has a Minor Ailment surgery
and can prescribe basic treatments for many minor illnesses.
Patients attending A&E for non-emergency problems cause delays for patients with real
emergencies and waste valuable NHS resources.
