HERTS VALLEYS CLINICAL COMMISSIONING GROUP Position Statement on Tramadol modified-release (M/R) (Marol®) HVCCG recommends Tramadol M/R tablets/capsules (12 HOURLY) to be prescribed as Marol® M/R tabs Recommendations Tramadol M/R capsules/tablets should be prescribed as Marol® tablets. Tramadol M/R should only be considered second line for those patients in whom immediate release is not appropriate. Practices should consider switching patients currently prescribed other brands of Tramadol MR 100mg, 150mg and 200mg (including generic) to Marol®. There is currently no 50mg strength of Marol®. Zydol® SR 50mg tablets are currently the most cost effective preparation.1 Practices should be aware that there are 12 hourly and 24 hour release formulations of tramadol MR. The following brands are 24 hour release and should only be switched if the dose is to be altered: Zydol XL® Zamadol 24 hour® Tradorec® Rationale Marol® is the most cost effective preparation of tramadol M/R for the strengths listed below.
