What is it?
• It is colorless poisonous gas or
liquid with a strong odor.

How is it made?
• It is formed by naturally
volcanic activity, and is a waste
gas produced by burning coal
and oil and by many industrial
processes, such as smelting.

What are its effects on
human health?
• Breathing sulfur dioxide can lead to
respiratory effect.
• It can also cause skin irritation.
• If Liquid SO2 comes in contact with
eyes it can cause permanent
damage in the eyes.
