MRI Scan under General Anaesthetic
Your child has had an MRI Scan under General Anaesthetic. This
leaflet will tell you a little more information about what will happen
next.
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) Scan is used to produced
detailed pictures of the inside of the body. An MRI scan can be
used to obtain images of almost any part of the body.
Recovery
Your child will be observed for a short period of time on the ward area. The nurses will ensure your child
eat and drink following the general anaesthetic.
Anaesthetics can wear off slowly making your child feel dizzy for short periods.
Your child should be observed closely at home for the first day. If there are no problems over the
weekend your child can return to school/nursery on the following Monday.
Follow Up
The results of the MRI scan will be sent directly to your child’s consultant. They will then arrange an
appointment to discuss the results, or you will already have an appointment.
If your child has any problems tonight or over the weekend, please contact the Children’s Ward – Ward 3
at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
