ELECTROWAVE CAPE
Low Voltage Primary Current Injection
Services Profile
Circuit Breakers are one of the critical "safetyvalves" of electrical systems and basic
maintenance procedures are essential to
maintain maximum reliability.
Effective circuit breaker maintenance requires wellorganized, accurate testing. Breakers are situated at
the key points of electrical energy transmission and
distribution systems. Their reliability has a decisive
influence on the availability, safety and economic
efficiency of electrical supply networks.
Despite constant subjection to external influences
such as dirt and fluctuations in humidity and
temperature they must be able to function perfectly
in the case of a fault, even if they have not been
operated for some time. Should a short-circuit occur,
circuit breakers must interrupt extremely high fault
currents within just a few milliseconds.
Initially, the reliability of newly installed breakers depends on their construction, the
manufacturing quality and the type and scope of final factory inspections and tests.
However, once installed on site, only regular inspections and tests can guarantee perfect
functioning throughout the operational life of a breaker.
Comprehensive, accurate testing also requires analytical tools and efficient reporting. It
must be possible to validate test results in detail and then easily compare them with other
test results.
We, at Electrowave Cape provide a comprehensive and highly skilled inspection, test,
commissioning and maintenance service. Our engineers and senior technicians are
trained, competent and are familiar with all statutory and legal documents, (isolation
certificates, permits-to-work), as required.
Why Test Breakers?
Some of the most important of the many reasons for testing circuit breakers are:
To guard against damage to expensive equipment
To prevent outages that lead to loss of income
To ensure reliability of electrical supply
To prevent downtime and black-outs
To verify breaker performance
To ensure that the breaker is in a safe condition
Breakers are mechanically challenging devices that require periodic adjustments. The
need for some of these adjustments can be determined visual and they can be given the
attention needed without testing. However, in most cases, it will be necessary to carry out
electrical testing to find out what is the cause of the out-of-tolerance conditions.
Furthermore, Primary current injection testing will prove whether the circuit breakers
conform to the original specifications and if they are in a safe reliable condition.
Anytime, anyplace, anywhere…
Electrowave Cape has a fully calibrated portable high current Megger Programma Oden
AT primary current injection unit, with 3 high current modules that can be transported to
your premises, ship or rig. All instruments used during the testing are calibrated and are
traceable to an international standard.
No need to remove breakers and ship them for testing.
Breakers tested on site and in same environment as used.
