JOB OVERVIEW
An excellent opportunity to provide your professional forestry advisory services in the natural
resource sector. In this position you will influence and engage in complex natural resource initiatives from
forest rehabilitation, evaluation and monitoring to ensuring coordinated delivery of permitting processes
supporting the province's Liquified Natural Gas Strategy.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Required:

Provides professional advisory services in a particular field of expertise (i.e. Forestry) in support of
natural resource decision making within a program area of Forest Tenures, Stewardship and Major
Projects.

Applies professional expertise and provides guidance in the implementation of new procedures,
methods and practices (i.e. land appraisals and tenures, major projects related to pipelines).

Evaluates resource use applications; reviews proposals, engages in informal consultation with
stakeholders, and evaluates and makes recommendations and/or approvals (i.e. land tenures, water
license or licence to cut related to pipelines and other resource development.

Provides extension services to stakeholders on natural resource proposals/initiatives (i.e. land tenures,
pipelines).

Recommends changes in regulations, policies, procedures, or inter-agency agreements to increase
efficiency.

Implements operational plans; investigating, modifying, and implementing procedures in a technical
area to support natural resource management area.

Prepares and/or negotiates contracts, monitors performance and authorizes payment.
Optional Accountabilities:

Attends and contributes to land use planning initiatives and/or other major forums.

Participates in research projects in an area of expertise.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Degree in the natural resource field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.

Registered, or immediately eligible for registration as a Professional Forester with the Association of
British Columbia Forest Professionals

A minimum of 3 years and preferably 5 years experience working in the natural resource management
field.

A minimum 2 years experience managing concurrent and complex priorities to produce results within
restrictive timeframes.

A minimum of 2 years experience in consulting, negotiating/mediating solutions with stakeholders in
natural resource management

Demonstrated knowledge of multidisciplinary issues involved in natural resource management.

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Experience in writing proposals,
agreements, letters and preferably contract documents.

Knowledgeable about contract management procedures and government processes.

Valid B.C. driver’s licence.

Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.

May be required to operate a variety of equipment.

Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or
extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a
criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security
screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting
carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
