CURRICULUM PROJECT
Project-1
Project Title : Modeling Of Microgrid Subsystems Using MATLAB.
Lab
: Simulation and solar energy Lab, ENERGY Center, MANIT-Bhopal.
Synopsis
: Synopsis of this project is to model the Microgrid subsystems at steady state and also
to study their transient responses to changing inputs. The Microgrid having the
subsystems of Solar Photo Voltaic module, Fuel cell, Diesel generator and power
conditioning unit have been developed. In the solar PV modeling a circuit based
simulation model for a PV cell in order to allow estimate the electrical behavior of the cell
with respect to changes on environmental parameter of temperature and irradiance. In
Fuel cell modeling the dynamic model of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) is done. The power
conditioning unit consists of both DC to DC boost converter and DC to AC grid connected
inverter have been developed. In the inverter simulation model 5KW source is connected
through inverter to the load as well as utility grid. In this simulation model the power
responses of load and utility grid are discussed by varying the load.
Project-2
Project Title : Transformer Protection Using The Wavelet Transform.
Lab
: Simulation Lab, Dept of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, BEC-Bapatla.
Synopsis
: Power transformer being a major apparatus in a power system its protection plays important
role in maintaining the quality and reliability of power. Many techniques, novel methods are
used for transformer protection. Usually power transformer protection is accomplished by
differential protection which recognizes faults, but it fails to discriminate fault from fault like
conditions such as magnetic inrush. So a novel approach for protection of transformer with
wavelet decision making is proposed. It involves computation of detail coefficients of
currents and finding the Maximum likelihood Estimated (MLE) values of the coefficients. This
scheme is tested for inrush condition and various faults. This technique has the ability to
distinguish fault condition from inrush conditions.
