A rare genetic disease predisposing patients to
developing cystic kidney, renal cell carcinomas,
fibrofolliculomas, spontaneous pneumothorax and lung
cysts.
The syndrome is caused by germline mutations in the
BHD gene, which encodes the tumor-suppressor protein
folliculin (FLCN).
