25 September 2015 Our Ref.: 3943-21791/DR Dry-Docking Check List, The Dry-Docking Check List is developed by ISTEC with the aim of improving the scope and extent of inspections during the dry-dock activity. As background, INTERTANKO members have experienced that charterers are reluctant to accept and hire a tanker on its first voyage after a dry-dock inspection. Therefore, ISTEC concluded that such a check list might assist to increase confidence on the quality of the ship after dry-docking activity. The check list classifies the items as per the VIQ categories for the ease of vetting inspector to follow the report. Items include the following checks to be performed: Prior to Dock Trials (PDT) During Dock Trials (DDT) During Sea Trials (DST) and Prior Sailing (PS) This checklist fits into the management of change concept, as conceived by the INTERTANKO Vetting Committee, considering the change of mode related to the activation of a vessel being in idle mode for an extensive period (Intermediate Survey, Special Survey, Dry-Docking, Major Repairs or New Construction) prior to the operational mode (trading), as an additional measure to manage the risk of placing the ships into service. Note should be given to: Column “timing” indicating the sequence items are carried out (PDT, DDT, DST and PS). This column may assist ship operators to filter and classify items according to the timing they are taken. This might facilitate the monitoring of the items. There are some items that lay in the interface of more than one category. With members’ further screening and practice, one could hopefully agree to which category each item should be assigned. Note to be taken that the checklist items may be drastically reduced, if a reference is given to the “prior departure” or “preparation for arrival” checklists, which some companies have in their system, but this is left to each individual company, since the goal of this exercise is to compile a generic checklist, to be easily adopted in any Documented Management System.
