Energy: General Introduction and renewable energy. An overview. Photovoltaic effect. Photovoltaic devices: photovoltaic parameters, operational principles, limits. Classes of materials and photovoltaic devices: - First-generation solar cells: single and multi-crystalline silicon; - Second-generation solar cells: inorganic thin film cells; - Third-generation solar cells: organic and hybrid (Graetzel) thin film cells; - Third-generation solar cells: concentration, multi-junction, quantum dots and advanced design solar cells.
