Domain Leader/Student Committee Application
Hampton Park Secondary College has a strong tradition of student leadership. All students are encouraged to
develop their leadership skills, in line with goal two of the Melbourne Declaration, which requires educators to
create an environment where learners can be ‘confident and creative individuals,’ who will further become ‘active
and informed citizens.’ (Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians, 2008)
All student leaders at Hampton Park Secondary College model our values of respect, learning and working
together.
There are 12 Domain Leader and Student Committee positions available for Year 12 students.
Selection Process
The selection process comprises of 2 key steps:
1.
Application: Written applications must be completed using the Domain Leader/Student Committee form
(see below) and submitted to the Senior School Office – Due Date – (Week 8 Term 3)
2.
Interview: The interview panel will comprise of the Student Engagement Leader, Year 12 Manager, Year 12
Assistant Principal and two members of the Student Leadership Team.
3.
Applicants will be ranked on all 3 processes (written application, speeches and interview)
4.
All applicants will be notified of the result of their application
Key responsibilities and role descriptions

Leading authentic college wide, student voice in the curriculum

Representing the students at Domain meetings with staff every cycle, and helping create and provide
feedback on student learning (CATs, rubrics, learning sequences etc)

Leading and working together with the Junior and Senior Committees, and other student leadership groups
at the college

Working with the Staff Domain Leader and /or community involvement staff to plan events like Domain
events (eg. Science week, English week etc) and events in our community

Providing feedback at various student forums throughout the year, to improve our teaching and learning
outcomes

Collaborating each cycle with the Student Engagement Leader

Representing the College at formal occasions both within and outside the school

Regularly communicating with the Principal and members of the Executive Leadership Team, both in person
and via email

Addressing school assemblies to promote student voice and the values of Hampton Park Secondary College

Communicating with our community of learners through the Newshamper, email, and speaking publically
about current leadership activities at Values Assemblies, and Briefing

Selection Criteria
To be eligible for the position of Domain Leader/Student Committee, applicants must be able to demonstrate and
sustain:

Commitment to the school through academic and cultural involvement

A vision (plan) for their leadership

Leadership qualities including reliability, respect, responsibility, collaboration, and independent learning.

High level communication skills (verbal and written, and including the use of ICT)

An exceptional attendance and learning behaviours record
