Sonning Common Health Centre Patient Participation Group Committee Meeting 16th February 2017 Present: J. Mclean, F. Woolsey, M. Williams, R. Adams, S. Litchfield, P. Woolsey, F. Nickson, A. Tsoi Minutes of the last meeting: An alteration was made to the Minutes of the last meeting: “The venue of the open day entitled Matters of Life and Death on 1st March is at the Sue Ryder Hospice in Nettlebed not the village hall”. The Minutes were approved. Chairs Report: The Wish List – There was a progress report from Ruth who confirmed that the following purchases had been made from the gift fund and or general expenditure: Automation of door into reception. Centrifuge for spinning blood samples, from the gift fund A Doppler machine, from the gift fund. Various nebulisers and asthma checking machines Pulse oximeter Phlebotomy room downstairs decorated and new vinyl flooring installed 2 more consulting rooms are due to be decorated and have new vinyl flooring by April 2017. Finally, progress has been made regarding the TV screens in the waiting room. Some of the equipment has been purchased but a large monitor needs to be bought. Jenny spoke about a talk on Diabetes that had been given at Wallingford. Jenny will be speaking to Catherine Cassidy who is the diabetes nurse at SCHC as well as Dr Drury, to see if we could do something similar in Sonning Common. Andrea Tsoi: * Mrs Tsoi introduced herself and spoke briefly about her work background which was in marketing and communication and childrens’ centres. * She spoke of the event to be held in The Village Hall on 1st April for Dr Burnett’s retirement. It will be from 10 until 12 with coffee and cake on offer. The proceeds will go to the Sue Ryder Hospice. * She confirmed that Dr Burnett’s patients were to be divided between Dr Webster and Dr Smith, both new salaried doctors. This event will be advertised in all the local papers, SCHC’s website and the newsletter. * Breast screening was going to be carried out from 6th March for 6 weeks. Women under 40 and over 70 are also to be offered a session. Report from Peter W. and Fred N. on their meeting at SELF: There has been an increase of 30% in the 85 and over age group in Oxfordshire. There had been a discussion about trying to create neighbourhood teams who will work with Primary Care Social Services in order to keep and eye on this vulnerable age group. The idea was to have a support group for when someone came out of hospital in order to alleviate the bed blocking which is such a problem for the NHS. It was suggested that the Chair invite Maria Melbourne, Anne Lancaster and Julia Dennis-Smith to come and give a similar talk to us. Report on End of Life Rika reported that the latest talk given by an undertaker had been about funerals and bereavement. There was to be another meeting held in Peppard. Any other business: There was talk of the number of new houses going up next to the Herb Farm and would the surgery be able to accommodate the number of people moving into the area. Parking: there is a need to put more “Doctors’ patients only” signs to be put up along the car park fence. Fred gave out leaflets reference home visiting and FISH which needed to be distributed. Suggestions were asked for the next newsletter and also something for the PPG website page. Date of the next meeting: Thursday 23rd March at 3pm.
