Brief Outline of the Department
The School of Life Sciences (SLS), JNU, is recognized by UGC as a Centre for
advanced study with an Integrated Programme of Teaching and Research in
diverse aspects of modern biology and also as a component with a potential of
Centre of Excellence by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It was given
grants under COSIST-I & II, DSA/SAP-I & II by UGC. SLS has reputed
programmes in life science research in areas such as Plant Molecular Biology,
Genetics, Cell & Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, Biochemistry, Immunology,
Radiation and Photobiology, Cancer Biology, Microbiology, Bioinformatics and
Structural Biology. It has well established and fully functional CIF, CCIF facilities
and a good Library besides optimally utilized excellent Auditorium and
Committee Rooms.

SLS has internationally - reputed Teaching and Research Programmes on Plant
Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell & Molecular Biology, Neurobiology,
Biochemistry, immunology, Radiation and Photo-biology, Cancer Biology,
Microbiology, Membrane Biology, Bioenergetics, Cell and Developmental Biology,
Molecular Biology, Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Transgenics,
Immunology, Molecular Genetics and Human Genetics, Photobiology, Radiation
