Freeman Publishers. ⑵ Devlin T M.. 2002. Textbook of Biochemisrty with Clinical Correlations. New York: Wiley-Liss. ⑶ Robert K. Murray, Daryl K. Granner, Peter A. Mayes,et al. 2003. Harper’s Biochemistry. Stamford:McGraw-Hill. 1. After discussion with your group members, prepare a list of compounds (e.g., ATP etc.) and enzymes that are needed for the replication of DNA. 2. Discuss the functions of helicase (dnaB) and gyrase enzymes. 3. Discuss the process of replication and the role of dnaA, dnaB, dnaC, SSB proteins in the replication process. 4. What functions do polymerase I, polymerase II, and polymerase III enzymes play in replication process. 5. How lesions in DNA are repaired. Also explain how a thymine dimer is removed from a DNA that has been exposed to UV light. Each DNA strand serves as a template for the synthesis of a new strand, producing two new DNA molecules, each with one new strand and one old strand. This is semi-conservative replication. Process of DNA replication includes three stages: initiation, elongation and termination. DNA replication requires the following materials: substrate, template, enzyme, primer, and other protein factors.
