Toxocariasis is domestic parasite (Toxocara canii), which infects as asymptomatic
infestation in human. We reviewed total 7 previously reports on cardiac-related
toxocariasis. Some patients developed systemic toxocariasis consequently,
however, rare cases developed cardiac complication such as Loeffler
endomyocarditis (30%), myocarditis (50%), pericarditis (10%)and aneurysm (10%)
Our retrospective study of toxocara infection reports during1981-2001, only 10
cases were reported about development of cardiac complication with age ranged
from 4 to 60 years old. Among those patients, common manisfestations are
hypereosinophilia(100%) and 2 of 10 cases (20%) were incidentally diagnosed as
asymptomatic cardiac toxocariasis during open heart surgery. Positive ELISA test
of toxocariasis can be seen in all cases. Morever, echocardiogram is useful for
diagnosis of endomyocardial lesion, especially pulsed wave tissue doppler
echocardiography provided regional differentiation of a restrictive filling pattern
which documented the importance of this new diagnostic tool in myocardial illness.
