From: Summaries of Infectious Diseases Red Book® 2015, 2015 Figure Legend: Using the NanoScope IV MultiMode atomic force microscope, the "knobby" virion surface structure was visualized (arrow). High magnification of the maturing virus particles showed a rosette appearance with short, knob-like spikes under both the scanning electron and atomic force microscopes. The spikes, which were 16-17 nm, seemed shorter than those of other coronaviruses.
