Redefining Gel
and Blot Imaging
PXi AND PXi TOUCH
Gel and blot imaging made easy
Syngene imaging systems are recognised
world-wide as high quality, high performance
instruments for the capture and analysis of
fluorescence gels, chemiluminescence
western blots, protein samples and stain
free techniques.
AUTOMATIC
IMAGING
MADE EASY
The PXi range
PXi is the next generation system that sets a new standard in
multi-spectral imaging. Its unique, compact design features
the latest advancements in CCD technology along
with the ground breaking image capture
software, GeneSys. Imaging of fluorescence gels
and blots, chemiluminescence Western blots,
multiplexed western blots, UV-excited and white
light applications has never been easier.
Sensitivity
Achieve superior sensitivity from large pixel size, high
quantum efficiency and low read out noise CCD cameras.
All cameras have high quantum efficiency of 73% at
425nm resulting in faster and more sensitive image quality.
Decrease your exposure time and increase image quality
and sensitivity. Use GeneSys image capture software to detect
even the faintest of bands using the auto-expose function.
Choice of system
Choose between two models - standalone with built-in
processor and touch screen monitor or add your own PC - and a range
of cameras 4m, 6m and 9m pixels to suit budgetary requirements and
applications. The ergonomically designed PXi complements any laboratory
with its small footprint and fully automated control and application
driven image capture software, GeneSys.
The PXi system is easy to install and with plug and play Epi LED modules you
can effortlessly extend the range of applications that can be imaged.
Cameras
16 bit CCD systems available in either 4m, 6m or 9m pixels
providing sample resolution as low as 30µm. Cooled to -280C and a
read out noise of typically 5erms delivers exceptional sensitivity ideal
for chemiluminescence and IR fluorescence.
Lenses
Designed to match camera sensors to offer the best possible
performance in image quality. The PXi 4 has a superfast f0.95 lens to
increase sensitivity by up to 4 times. Syngene has unique flatfix
technology which eliminates saturation from images by using an
Auto Aperture feature. This technology also includes a lens distortion
correction feature which is automatically utilised to give crystal clear
images when required.
Internal lighting
UV imaging
Epi UV at 302nm for stain free imaging techniques.
Blue light imaging
UltraSlim blue LED transilluminator perfect for ‘safe’ dyes such as
SYBR gold, SYBR green and UltraSafe blue.
White light imaging
Epi white light helps to position samples and image colorimetric
markers on chemiluminescent Western blots to aid in the analysis of
molecular weights on detected bands. A white light pad is used for
imaging Coomassie blue and Silver stained gels.
Multiplexed fluorescence imaging
Multi-coloured LEDs with 4 excitation channels Red, Green, Blue
and IR.
Sample drawer
The system’s smooth glide drawer has guides to enable
accurate positioning of the gel or blot. An UltraSlim blue LED
transilluminator easily fits into the drawer to image
‘safe’ dyes.
With a small format system, sample size is
very important. The PXi systems range from
15.5x11.5cm (PXi 4) to 13x10cm (PXi 6) to
13x10cm (PXi 9).
ADVANCED
IMAGING
TECHNOLOGY
POWERED BY GENESYS
Applications at the touch of a button
GeneSys control software
GeneSys has been designed for productivity; its ease of use requires little or no
training to acquire publication-quality images.
GeneSys acquisition software is application led. At the heart of GeneSys is its
extensive database of dyes and protocols. The user only needs to tell GeneSys
which application they wish to use and the software automatically configures the
system for that application to produce high quality images every time.
The GeneSys home screen gives the user the option to use fully automatic mode
(preferred) or manual mode. From this screen you can also change your user
preferences and access user configurations.
Each user can save and load user configurations which are particularly helpful
when carrying out repetitive experiments. Configurations save settings such as
lens, lighting, filters, exposure time and all the information on your sample type.
Multiplex up to five different fluorophores at a time using GeneSys software and
then display multichannel fluorescent images in multicolour overlay or in single
colour. GeneSys also lets you overlay molecular weight makers and colorimetric
markers on chemiluminescent western blots for simultaneous viewing. Also easily
view multiple captures of a chemiluminescent blot taken at differing time points.
Images captured with GeneSys software can be found on the view screen in
GeneSys. You can also view up to four individual images at a time making it easy
to compare data.
The Edit screen offers a range of editing tools from annotation, rotation, inversion
and 3D view.

Chemiluminescence imaging
Multiplex fluorescence detection
Automated imaging of chemiluminescent blots has never
been easier with GeneSys. Achieve faster exposure
times, choose between having a speedy image or opting
for a high quality image and achieve a dynamic range
that surpasses film to ensure fully quantifiable data.
PXi system offers superior sensitivity capable of
capturing the broad dynamic range available with
fluorescence ensuring outstanding linearity for accurate
quantification.
Eliminate the guesswork of single event capture of blot
signals with film and use GeneSys software to ensure
you never saturate your bands and easily capture visible
markers that are merged with your chemiluminescent
image for molecular calculation.
Detecting multiple proteins simultaneously is effortless
with the new PXi system and GeneSys. Detect up to
five different fluorophores on the same gel or blot.
Band intensity values can be normalised to another
protein or a loading control eliminating the need to strip
and re-probe.
Multiplexed imaging has made it easier to identify
co-migrating proteins such as phosphorylated isoforms
and proteins with a similar molecular weight. Image data
from each fluorescent channel can be overlaid or viewed
individually to detect overlapping bands.

of Coomassie blue stain or silver stained
gels and fluorescent stained gels
and blots e.g. Q-Dots. DyLight,

GEL AND BLOT ANALYSIS
WITH GENETOOLS
GeneTools analysis software provides rapid and powerful gel analysis. Automatic
detection of lanes and bands, viewing densitometry profiles and its user-friendly
functions allow for customisation and adjustments to be made.
It has never been easier to analyse multiplexed gels or blots with GeneTools making
it possible to view and analyse overlaid channels to automatically detect bands in
separate channels at the same time and to also view individual channels.
Share and export data easily. Save, open and analyse image files, export data
reports directly to Microsoft Excel and Word.
•1D gel analysis •MW/BP calculation •Quantification •E-gels
•Band matching with dendrograms •Spot blots •Colony counting
•GeneDirectory (option) for extended band matching, cluster analysis, VNTR
