PROTEIN MOLECULE GALLERY These are models of protein molecules, built by students in 11th grade Biology. Proteins fold into intricate shapes. Because of these shapes, proteins can function (in cells) as machines and tools, carrying out thousands of tasks per second. The students’ models represent many of the characteristic patterns of protein folding, including alpha helices, beta sheets, hydrogen bonds, side‐chains, and active sites (where the protein bonds with a molecule substrate that it will act upon). Protein molecule: polymerase β
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II
