QUESTRAN, WELCOL- Binds with
bile in intestines and removes
with feces
cholesterol absorption
inhibitors : Zetia – inhibit
intestinal absorption of
cholesterol
Blocks synthesis of cholesterol
and increase LDL receptors in
the liver, decrease LDL and
triglycerides, increases HDL
Increases HDL, Interferes with
the absorption of other drugs
Increases HDL, decreases LDL,
CONTRAINDICATED WITH LIVER
DISEASE.
SIDE EFFECTS: upset GI, Increase
liver enzymes, myopathy
(B) Niacin : niacin, Nicotinic Acid
– decrease hepatic production
of VLDL, Decreases LDL and
triglycerides, and increases HDL
SIDE EFFECTS: INCREASES LIVER
ENZYMES AND COUMADIN
LEVELS
(C ) Fibric Acid Derivates: Tricor,
Lopid
decreases hepatic synthesis of
VLDL, decreases triglycerides,
