LA LON LA LON is a medium viscosity Sodium Hyaluronate based ophthalmic viscoelastic solution, designed for routine cataract surgery. The Sodium Hyaluronate is derived from bacterial fermentation using a soy peptone base, eliminating the need for materials of animal origin – which has become an issue lately. LA LON is one of the most elastic materials produced using this source, with three characteristic viscosities in three very important shear rate regions: The zero shear rate viscosity is responsible for the maintenance of space in the anterior chamber and allows the manipulation of tissues during the operation without escaping trough the incision. The surgical shear rate viscosity determines the resistance to the instruments and implant during intraocular procedures. It has to provide free movement for the instruments and an easy entry for the implant into the inflated capsular bag. The injection shear rate viscosity causes the resistance when expressing LA LON trough a cannula. The viscosity and elasticity range of LA LON have been selected to provide the highest possible zero shear viscosity, while allowing unrestricted manipulation during surgery and still enabling the use of a thin, 27 gauge cannula for expression. These parameters have been fine tuned using small changes, based on feedback from our specialists and customers worldwide. Specifications: Molecular Weight Zero shear Viscosity Ph Osmolarity Packaging / Storage: 2 Million Daltons 50,000 cps 7.2 ± .4 314 ± 10 mOsM Pouch containing 1.0 ml LA LON, sterile in a Luer-lock glass syringe Pouch containing disposable 27 gauge thin-wall cannula Information leaflet in easy to open box Store dark between 2 °C – 25 °C Refrigeration is not required Shelf life: 24 months Composition by weight: Sodium Hyaluronate Sodium Chloride Potassium Chloride Calcium Chloride Magnesium Chloride Sodium Acetate Sodium Citrate 20 mg 6.4 mg 0.75 mg 0.48 mg 0.3 mg 3.9 mg 1.7 mg Due to the bacterial fermentation and purification method, the residual protein content of LA LON is so low, that refrigeration is not necessary to keep it safe for intraocular use. Exposure to higher temperatures is known to break the long molecular chains of Sodium Hyaluronate, leading to loss of viscosity. Therefore it is recommended to store LA LON between +2 and +25 degrees Celsius, away from light. Also available in 10Pack Every production lot is must pass several tests before being released. Among them are tests for viscosity PH and endotoxin content. To ensure sterility, four separate test methods are applied simultaneously. A 100% final inspection ensures the quality of each individual unit. * LA LON and LA GEL are manufactured at LA LABS in California. They are not relabeled versions of third party import products.
