Personal Statement The focus of my research has been evaluating methods to improve the quality of care for rheumatoid arthritis patients and gout. I have also been extensively involved in designing and implementing clinical trials for patients with various autoimmune, rheumatological conditions. Our preliminary studies have demonstrated the feasibility and validity of computer- and web-based program in assessing the levels of disease activity among RA patients. We propose to use a similar program to improve the medication adherence among RA patients.. As both principal and subinvestigator for more than 50 clinical trials at the UCSD Center for Innovative Therapy, I have an extensive experience addressing unforeseen difficulties related clinical trials including recruitment, drop-outs, and data management.
