Hephaistos, Eris,
Eileithyia. Hera
married her brother

forced him to disgorge his
offspring.

Hera and the birth of
Athena
There were two
versions of
Hera’s reaction
to the birth of
Athena on the
first she was
furious that
Zeus had
produced a
child alone, and
she produced
Hephaestus in response.
In the second, Hera was
pleased with the child.
When Hera found out that
leto was pregnant with twins
by Zeus she was very
angry. She banned leto
from giving birth on any
mainland or island that was
known.
