IS32BL3556 WIDE INPUT VOLTAGE RANGE, HIGH EFFICIENCY FAULT TOLERANT LED DRIVER DESCRIPTION RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT The IS32BL3556 is a white LED driver for backlight applications based on a highly efficient boost controller operating over a wide input voltage range of 4.75V to 40V. The boost converter can drive up to 48 LED, 12 LED per string, at 120mA. The LED sinks can be paralleled together to achieve even higher LED currents, up to 480mA. The IS32BL3556 is available in a thermally enhanced eTSSOP-20 package. It is lead (Pb) free, with 100% matte tin lead frame plating. • FEATURES The IS32BL3556 evaluation board is fully assembled and tested. Follow the steps listed below to verify board operation. • • • • • Input voltage range is 4.75V to 40V for start/stop, cold crank and load dump requirements Excellent input voltage transient response Sync function to synchronize boost converter switching frequency up to 2.3MHz, allowing operation above the AM band Single resistor primary OVP minimizes VOUT leakage AEC-Q100 qualified (pending) 12V 3A DC power supply ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM RATINGS • ≤ 40 power supply Caution: Do not exceed the conditions listed above, otherwise the board will be damaged. PROCEDURE Caution: Do not turn on the power supply until all connections are completed. 1) 2) 3) 4) Short J2 to connect EN/PWM and 5V. Connect output (default: 6 led series and 4 parallel). Turn on the power supply (default: VIN =12v). Revolve the potentiometer RP2 you can change FSW from 1.54MHz to 504KHz. (default:1.54MHz). 5) QUICK START Figure 1: Photo of IS32BL3556 Evaluation Board Revolve the potentiometer RP1 you can set LED current from 100mA to 33mA (default:100mA per channel). 6) If you want to adjust the LED current by PWM, you should remove J2 first, and then apply a PWM single to the EN/PWM pin. Typical PWM dimming frequencies fall between 200Hz and 1KHz, VH=5V. 7) For adjusting the output current, you can apply a signal frequency to APWM pin. The frequency range from 20kHz to 1MHz, the APWM signal to have duty cycles that are between 0% and 75%. 8) For using synchronize function, an external clock can apply to the SYNC pin. The external frequency fall between 580 kHz and 2.3 MHz. 9) Any fault condition will turn on D2 LED. 10) Short JP4 can disable the input switch MOS protection (short Q2).
