SCOPE OF INTERNSHIP
This internship sits within the Communications & Media team. The purpose of the team is to inform
and engage the wider New Zealand public on all areas of Oxfam’s work through multimedia coverage
in print, broadcast and online channels, educating and inspiring them to take action against poverty.
The Digital Communication Intern will provide valuable communications and digital support to
Communications Advisor, and members of the Communications & Media team/ wider Engagement
team as required. S/he will also help generate exposure for Oxfam’s campaigns, programmes and
fundraising and act as a key interface between the Communications team and the Campaigns &
Advocacy team in key campaigning initiatives.
OPPORTUNITIES
This internship is unpaid but offers a great opportunity for someone looking for experience in digital
communications and campaigns in a highly respected international development organisation. There
is also the opportunity to learn more about international development, humanitarian and campaigning
work.
The Communications Advisor will ensure there are opportunities for learning about communications
work and any other areas of the organisation the intern may be interested in. Opportunities for skills
development, career advice and feedback on performance will also be provided.
There may be opportunities to attend external meetings, for skills development and to participate in
Oxfam’s lively workplace culture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the development of communication materials to promote Oxfam’s work across digital
channels (social media, email, website) and print/publication channels.
2. In close collaboration with the Media and Communications Intern, support the promotion of
Oxfam’s work across media (online, print and broadcast).
3. Work with the Communications Advisor and wider team to update Oxfam’s websites.
4. Assist the Communications Advisor / other members of the Communications & Media team in
producing content for Oxfam’s supporter magazine Te Iho.
5. Assist with sourcing original content to promote Oxfam’s work by attending events and
interviewing supporters.
6. Contribute to development and implementation of digital strategies and activities for key Oxfam
fundraising, campaigns, programmes and events and activities.
7. With the guidance of the Communications Advisor create digital content (sharegraphics, GIFs,
infographics) for Oxfam’s social media channels.
8. Help develop and expand Oxfam’s audio-visual library.
9. Take photographs at any relevant meetings and events as directed by the Communications
Advisor.
10. Undertake any other duties that may be delegated by the Communications Advisor or other team
as required, that are in keeping with the scope of this internship.

COMPETENCIES
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
 Experience of communicating across different digital channels
 Experience of writing for different audiences
 A relevant tertiary qualification (or working towards it) e.g. in communications, PR, journalism, or
commensurate professional experience
 An interest in international development and a passion for social justice
 Experience and/or knowledge Microsoft Office applications
 A basic knowledge of Adobe’s graphics suite
 A passion for digital media
Professional skills
 Excellent written and verbal command of the English language
 Strong computer skills
 Basic skills in InDesign Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro
 Basic skills in Adobe After Effects is preferred
