PROMOTES AMY MADISON AS INTERIM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Madison brings nearly 14 years of economic development experience
PFLUGERVILLE, Texas—The Pflugerville Community Development Corporation (PCDC) today
announced Amy Madison was named the Interim Executive Director of the PCDC. Madison, who
previously held the Assistant Executive Director position, will take over for Floyd Akers who has
led the organization for the past four years.
“I am honored to step into this role as the PCDC transitions into new leadership,” said Amy
Madison, interim executive director of the Pflugerville Community Development Corporation. “ I
look forward to working closely with the board in this new capacity.”
Madison brings with her a wealth of senior-level experience developing strong, award-winning
economic development programs in Central Texas, spanning three cities, in two major
metropolitan areas, along Interstate 35 and State Highway 130. She is a Certified Economic
Developer (CEcD), certified Economic Development Finance Professional (EDFP), and a Certified
Public Manager (CPM). Madison immediately began her tenure as Interim Executive Director on
Saturday. She joined PCDC in January of 2014.
“While we are sad to see Floyd Akers go we are confident Amy Madison has the experience and
passion to take the PCDC to the next level,” said Doug Weiss, president of the Pflugerville
Community Development Corporation Board of Directors. “Amy has devel oped an impressive
network of local, regional, national and international site selectors, real estate professionals and
developers that will be instrumental in attracting new business prospects, capital investment, an d
job creation for Pflugerville.“
Akers resignation was accepted Saturday, July 25, by the PCDC board of directors. He will
continue as General Counsel until August 1. Under Akers leadership, the PCDC has been very
successful in attracting new businesses and creating jobs in Pflugerville. He was instrumental in
the creation of the 130 Commerce Center, construction of the city’s first hotel and conference
center, and cut deals brining Hawaiian Falls, Precision Ammunition and a $33 million expansion
of FedEx Ground Services in Pflugerville.
Akers became the executive Director and General Counsel for t he PCDC in 2011. Prior to that he
served as the City Attorney for Pflugerville. Akers has also served as City Attorney in New
Braunfels, Presiding Municipal Judge for the city of Bryan, Assistant City Attorney in San Antonio
and has represented the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was raised in San Antonio and
attended the University of Wyoming where he earned an undergraduate degree in History as well
as his law degree.
“Floyd Akers leaves an impeccable and ambitious tenure at the PCDC ,” Weiss said. “All of us on
the board are thankful for his leadership and service to the city of Pflugerville. There is no doubt
that he leaves big shoes to fill. Pflugerville has greatly benefitted from his knowledge and
tenacity. We wish him success in his future endeavors.”
The PCDC Board of Directors initiated a national search earlier this month to replace Akers and
looks to name a permanent executive director before the end of this fiscal year.
